Car ride or plane ride with a 6 month old

This July we are going to Florida for vacation and I have never traveled with a baby before so not sure which would be easier. She will be 6 months by then. We wanted to try driving because it'll be cheaper since we won't have to rent a car when we get there, but not sure how difficult it'll be with a baby. We are traveling from New York btw so it'll be like an 18 hour trip. So what do you think?

You might have to make a lot of stops, and it just depends on how your LO does in a car. We had to drive to Dallas when DS was 5 months old and it was a 6 hour drive a we stopped every 1-2 hours and it was just horrible.

I live in NY and travel to FL often, LO has been on the plane numerous times and I have never ever had a problem. It's a pretty easy flight IMO..

Yeah no. 18 hours of a bored pissy baby or 3 hours of maybe slightly cranky potentially sleeping baby. I vote airplane.

We drove 16 hours with a 2 year old and a 5 month old. It really wasn't all that bad. They slept a lot. We just made lots of stops to feed, change and let them stretch. I would do it again.

You CAN drive but I'm not saying it'll be easy. It was easy to drive when dd was 8 weeks, but at 6 mos she was awful. She started getting anxiety and screamed the second she saw the car. Our 3 day trip turned into a 5 day trip. She was awesome on our plane ride at 9 mos  

We just flew from South Carolina to Hawaii with our 5 month old he was fine. He cried a teeny bit in between trips. To be honest he mainly slept and nursed almost the whole trip. It will be fine.

This. We did an 18 hour drive when Wesley was about 5 months old. We had to stop every 2 hours, so the drive will probably take you at least 2 days to do. We did it in 2, very long days.

I've also flown multiple times with him. He does great on airplanes; he loves them actually. I've done international flights, and flown alone with him numerous times as well (he's a well-traveled baby lol).

Flying is way easier, but the driving is a lot cheaper and not as horrible as people are making it out to be. DS falls right to sleep when we get in the car, though. If your LO hates the car, I would definitely make it a flight.

As much as I hate flying... I'd take that over an 18 hour car ride with an infant. Probably with any kid for that matter!

I did what was supposed to be a 6 hour drive from San Jose to San Diego, It took us 10 hours with a 2 year old and a 5 month old (2 year old not the problem) Half way into the drive i booked the baby and I a return flight. NEVER again will i do a car ride with an infant again. Fly i promise its easier.

Thanks! I thought flying would be easier too, I was even thinking about splitting us up because it'll be my mom, my brother, SO and me and baby. So was thinking maybe have someone drive with someone else and then me or my SO take the baby in the plane because my brother doesn't want to drive there. And that way we still won't need to rent a car.

We are doing exactly that as well. Seems like a good compromise!
