Sorry, I tried to get all the options up there, but there are too many  .

The reason I ask this question is that I have very minor, first degree tears with my first (no stitches required) and no tearing with my second. But it remains a fear of mine. I do not plan to have any more children, but if I do, I'm sure I will think of it while pushing again.

Have any of you had little to no tears during a birth (or two, or three, or...) and then had tears in a subsequent birth?

I tore terribly with my first, and with my second I have a very minor tear. It was amazing!

I tore with my first, 3rd degree laceration. With my second, I had "skid marks" and with my third I did tear in several places but they were small tears. They left it up to me whether I wanted them to stitch them (because of the size of them, there were about 7 places that could have used one stitch each), I opted not to and they healed up in two weeks.

3rd degree tear with my first from hole to hole. No tearing with my second. Hoping no tearing with future births

I had a very small episiotomy with my first and I only pushed for 8 minutes.

#2 literally ripped me from one end to the other, inside and out. And he came EXTREMELY fast.

Most responses are encouraging. Sorry to hear about the 3rd and 4th degree tears  .

It took me about an hour to push out both of my babies, mostly because I didn't really push. I figured that would reduce the chance of tears (it either worked, or it was just a coincidence).

Had an episiotomy with my first which sucked for recovery, didn't need to be cut and didn't rip with my second and recovery was amazing!!

It took me four hours to push my first out, and had to have the help of the vacuum. I had 163 stitches, they almost took me to the OR. It was bad. My second? I pushed for like 10 minutes...if that. I think I had 13 stitches. It was just amazing.

Yeah, slowly doesn't always work.
I pushed for 3 hours with my first and didn't really push at all with my second (hers was the easiest labor, delivery, recovery ever). My third came very fast too. She was my biggest and worst labor.

Holy cow! That's a lot of stitches.

I only had 6 stitches that I counted, but they classified it as 3rd degree because of the location. They said one more stitch and I would never feel pleasure in my clit again. I ripped upwards...

I ripped....uh, everywhere? lol. The reason there were so many though was because they had to do them in layers because I tore so deeply (into the muscles and stuff.) Fun stuff, right?
