Breastmilk storage
posted 24th Jan
I breastfed my daughter but I don't remember the rules of storing breastmilk.
How long can you store it in a freezer and refrigerator?
When thawing breastmilk from the freezer, how do you defrost it and how long does it usually take?
How do you heat up breastmilk that was in the fridge? (I know to never use the microwave)
If baby doesn't finish the full bottle of breastmilk, how long can it sit out at room temperature before spoiling? Is it safe to put back in the fridge and use at the next feeding?
I can't believe I'm asking these questions but I honestly don't remember all of this. I feel like an idiot. Is there maybe a chart for the guidlines of breastmilk? Lol

Freezer up to 6 months
Refrigerator 6 days
To thaw you could leave it in the fridge overnight, or get a bowl of hot water and swirl the bottle around in it until it thaws, that's also the best way to warm it up.
You can leave it on the counter for a few hours, provided the room isn't too hot. Don't heat it and put it back in the fridge though.
Are you going back to work?

I had a magnet I kept on my fridge that my Lc gave me.
But heat it up with hot water in a dish. If you're doing a lot skme
People keep a crockpot of water going for quick access to warming. You can't keep it if it's warmed up. So warm small informers at a time. I froze milk in 2-4 oz bags. I would have my mom give her 4 oz and the. Heat up a 2 oz if she was still hungry after that. That way little to none was wasted.

Not returning to work but if baby will take breast and bottle like Addy did, I'd like to do it that way. Cooper loved the bond of being able to feed Addy as well. If the baby will only take my boobies then Cooper is smurf out of luck. And if I run into any problems, I want to store as much milk as I can. My milk supply diminished when Addy was 3 months old because her pediatrician said my milk was causing her colic and AR. So me being naive and dumb, I supplemented with formula and my supply went out the window. Luckily I stored enough breastmilk for her to eat until 4 1/2 months.

Love the crockpot idea... I always hated how long it took to warm up cold milk using hot water from the sink.

I'd just tell Cooper to bond in other ways Sam used to have baths with her when Sof was new

Yeah I've been searching the internet for articles on ways for fathers to bond with breastfed babies. He had a hard time at first with Addy. He felt useless and like she didn't want him. As soon as he fed her for the first time, I swear the look in his eyes was magical. Lol he was so in love.

Aw that is sweet. Did he ever bathe with her? Or wear her skin to skin? Sam has had moments like that with Sof, but then, so have I.
He can do diapers, too

He was weird about bathing with her. Maybe it'll be different with a boy. Skin to skin bothered the crap out of Addy. Cooper has a super hairy chest and it drove Addy nuts! Lol. I already told him he's on diaper duty. ;)

Aw, he shouldn't feel weird about bathing with his daughter! Sam and Sof love nakie time hehe. Especially as newbs, they don't care about genitals haha. Even being the one to bathe the baby is bonding even if he doesn't get in!

SO and dd1 used to snuggle. Sleep on his chest. When she got alert he's play with her. Change diapers. You don't have to feed a baby to bond.

Coopers favorite was having Addy sleep on his chest while he watched t.v. or played a video game. Lol
