My kids were lazy they never held their bottles but they did learn to hold their sippy cups when we took their bottles away at 12 months.

DS started wrapping his hand around the bottle at 3 months and a little after he was 4 months we didn't have to hold it for him any more.

Quoting crazy coupon lady:" I know eh.....as soon as she could hold it she refused to be held while drinking a bootle. But she hasnt ... [snip!] ... straw cup now. And she still hates to be held to drink, or to be held to just be held, she dont like closeness at all. lol"

how'd you get her on a straw sippy? DS doesn't seem to grasp the concept, is it just something that will come to him? he just turned 9 months.

My son is almost 9 months old and refuses to hold his bottle. I'm pretty sure his mentality is "why should I hold it when someone will do it for me." The extra cuddle time is a bonus.

Just keep offering it. I started a regular sippy at 3 months and at 4 or 5 months I started the straw cup, she took to it right away actually. Every meal and when playing just offer it with 1/2 c of water so 125ml or 40z whatever way you want to look at it. lol It will come when ready. try switching the type of straw cup maybe a thicker one or a smaller one.

i'll try that. mainly he just chews on it and then screams until he gets a bottle.

Omg... I am glad to hear other people can relate. DD is 9 months old in 2 days and has no interest in holding her bottle. She would rather try to pull my glasses off my face or pinch my boob.

Haha same with my daughter! She used to hold the sides of the bottle from about 6 weeks, tried feeding herself at 4 months but wasnt able to hold it too long. Now she doesn't bother at all, she's 9 months + so lazy!!!   she just loves being held + fed. She'll take a few sips out of a sippy cup but start playing with it + bashing it off stuff then, no intention of even holding that + feeding herself either!

Felix is 9.5 months and still wants me to hold his bottle. He can do it (he pretends to drink from my water bottle all the time lol), but he'd rather have me hold him while he eats. He's about 30 inches tall now so sometimes it's hard to hold him in a comfortable way but eh, I don't mind. I wanted to breastfeed but it didn't work out so it's nice to still hsve some kind of bonding time while eats. Like your son, though, Felix started putting his hands around the bottle about three months. He doesn't even bother now, though, haha.
