Luella

posted 24th Jan
Not pregnant, but love thinking of names for future children. I love the name Lucy but it's supposedly going to get very popular. Though I still may use it, I came across the name Luella and thought it was sweet. Nickname potential: Lulu, Ella, Lu, any others you can think of?

WDYT?

Nooo .... Makes me think she would be Luella-May and have buck teeth and her daddy is also her brother uncle nephew somehow

Names that could have the nickname Lu or Lulu:
Eloise
Lucia (loo-chee-ah or Loo-see-ah)
Tallullah
Lucinda
Lolita
Lucille
Louise
Laura
Lauren
Lucretia/Lucrezia
Luna

Luella makes me think CRU-ella like Cruella De Vil. The poster above suggested Lucinda I think that's very pretty, plus then you could call her Lucy as a nickname.

Not a fan of Luella...but goood old fashioned Lucy is still an adorable name in my opinion.

Luella is adorable if you like something vintage. I like Lucy well enough, but it IS getting a lot of attention the past few years - longer forms might be a good option - Lucille / Lucelia (lou-ceel-ya) / Lucienne / Luciana / Lucia / Lucasta / Lucinda....

Drives me nuts. I didn't think Lucy/Lucille would become more popular.

I mean, it's not OVERLY popular. It's still not in the top 50 and I don't see it being in the top 20 and what you have to remember is that after the top 15 or so, the number of actual babies born with a particular name drops off dramatically. Sophia is number one and was used 21,695 times. Lucy is number 72 and was only used 3,672 times.

Oh I know. I was so dead set against using a popular nbame with her because I hated having a name in the top ten.

I understand. My son's name is in the 30's or so and it's WAY more popular than I wanted.

That's one of the reasons I'm calling Charlotte by her nickname Lottie. Besides the fact that it's absolutely adorable, I've never met a Lottie! Most Charlotte's go by Charlotte or Charlie, rarely Lottie.

I don't care for it. I prefer Lucy/Lucille or Louise/Louisa.
