Urgent care?

posted 23rd Jan
I talked to the on call ped. 3 hours ago. I did the breathing treatment. I gave him Tylenol. He's sleeping now, but his face is still really red, and he still has a fever. He's breathing loud, but I can't hear wheezing in his back at the moment. I'm not desperate to get to the hospital like I usually am. But I feel like he probably does have bronchitis, from the way he was acting earlier, his fever and the fact that he crashed following a nebulizer treatment. Usually he lays here for a good hour after the treatment wide eyed and awake because it's a stimulant. <kind of talking out loud/ thinking out loud> he always has bronchitis when he has a fever. He has never just had a fever with an illness. What to do? What to do?

I can hear rattling in his back/between his shoulder blades and when I ask if it hurts, where it hurts he points to his rib.

If he's sleeping and the fever is some what controlled, just wait it out until morning and let him sleep. Spawn gets bronchitis a lot.

Are you sure he doesn't have the flu? The raspy sound could be the beginnings of pnuemonia. Not trying to scare you, but the flu is rampant here. Keep taking his temp. at regular intervals and see if it goes up or goes down. If it keeps going up you'll probably need to take him to see someone. Is he able to keep food down/liquids?

The symptoms she described him having are classic bronchitis.

He has a history of bronchitis/pneumonia from aspirating. And no one else is sick.

He has a eating disorder and today he didn't intake a whole lot. He is dehydrated, but that isn't out of the ordinary for him, some days he intakes enough and some days he doesn't. He doesn't fit the bill of healthy kids, so I have to use my better judgement.

See that's what we do. Typically he's fine. For some reason I feel like I should take him in.

Dehydrated enough for him to need fluids? Or ok to last until morning when you can try to get something into him?

It was 102.2 out of no where. The lowest it got was 101.3 and I can do them every 4 hrs but if he needs them more often I have to take him because of his medical history. The on call said if the treatment didn't do a whole lot to take him in. She had his chart on computer right in front of her. But it did help. I can do the next treatment in an hr.

If you have a gut feeling you should take him in then do so.

If he doesn't feel well he just won't eat. Hell, even when he's feeling well it's a fight to get him to intake enough. I don't know if they would do fluids.. But his urine is brown. He drank 10oz all day and ate no food. I thought it was just an off day until tonight when he fell asleep and after I bathed the other kids he was red and hot. Literally just like that, maybe 30 minutes from the time I had tried to wake him for tub time and the next time I checked.

I'd probably say since he has a rocky history to take him in. When you get there though ask for a mask for him because this flu smurf going around.
