Some states don't recognize the fetus as a person and so wouldn't charge it as two murders. I agree with you...either it's a person or it's not. It can't be both.

I think it is that way because it is someone ELSE choosing to terminate the pregnancy, not the mother.

99% of people that are anti-choice have no idea how abortions are preformed and are typically clueless about pregnancy in general. They picture this perfect little baby at 7 weeks gestation being ripped apart.

This is going to be long, I am going to state my opinion and I am sure there will be people to disagree but I am not interested in arguing just simply answering your question with my opinion.--which is I believe abortion is wrong and should be illegal. Reasons being-
facts about days after conception-.
18 days- heart is forming
21 days- heart is pumping
28 days- there are budding arms and legs
30 days- brain has multiplied in size ten thousand times.
40 days- brain waves and heartbeat can be detected
42 days- skeleton is formed, brain controls movements of muscles and organs.
45 days- baby weighs 1/30 of an oz but has all internal organs as an adult at various stages of development, baby has lips, tongue, sex organs begin to sprout out from the body.
8 weeks hands and feet are fully formed
9 weeks baby can squint eyes, swallows, frowns.
11 weeks urinates, makes facial expressions.
12 weeks- kicks, turns feet, spreads toes, makes fist, opens mouth.
no matter how early someone has an abortion they can not avoid taking a life.

-People say when a woman is pregnant it isn't a baby its a fetus, did you know fetus is a latin word meaning small child?
-People say the baby isn't a baby its an embryo or a zygote or fetus because its at an earlier stage of development, then are we saying that a toddler is more human than an infant, or an adolescent is more human than a toddler?

-If a woman schedules an abortion for 11 am and on her way to the clinic she is robbed and beaten, she survives and is perfectly health, the attacker can now be prosecuted for murder because he killed the unborn baby, but if the mugging doesn't happen the mother makes it to the clinic an hour later she can now pay a doctor to preform a legal procedure to kill that same baby. To the child whats the difference who kills him or her?
There are four differences between an unborn baby and a newborn.
1.) Size. Does how big you are determine who you are?
2.) Level of development. At twenty are you more human than a ten year old, since a twenty year old is more developed, stronger, and bigger?
3.) Environment. Does being inside a house make you more or less of a person rather than if you were outside? Does being located inside a mothers womb make a child less human?
4) Degree of dependency. Does dependence on another person determine who you are? Does Alzheimer / diabetes/ kidney dialysis dependent adult make less them of a person, obviously not.
