18 month old won't stop screaming...advice?
posted 23rd Jan
Dd is 18 months old and the last couple of weeks she has randomly had these screaming, crying, almost tantrum-like fits. I thought at first she was just hitting thr terrible 2's early, but it's like no tantrum i have ever seen. And I have 3 other kids. She kicks, screams, bites, scratches, gags herself, stomps...we can't just ignore it, we're afraid she will hurt herself. The scary part is, it's like she isn't even there. She won't look at us, it's like she doeant even see you. we try holding her and she hits and arches her back. Nothing calms her down. And it lasts at least an hour. I've Neber seen anything like it! It's awful. She does this until she is exhausted and just falls asleep. She isn't overly tired, that's what I thought caused it the first time, but tonight it just came from no where. She was fine one minute and then she wasn't. I dont know...anyone else have this happen?

No I've never seen my son do that, after he notices we aren't paying attention to him or whatever he stops.

No, no shots. She's had a cold the last week, no fever or anything. Just a little stuffy/runny nose. She isn't constipated. She ate well, nothing new, just spaghetti. I was afraid something was hurting her, but i can't think of anything. She was pulling her hair and smacking her head, maybe a headache?

My now three year old used to have outbursts like this. Does it happen when she eats a certain food or anything?
my daughters was caused by a sugar allergy. She is allergic to cane sugar.
Now if she has it her reaction is different but she doesn't have it at all if we are there to stop it.

My son does this when gets tired. He also has tantrums like he is possessed...kicking, screaming, throwing himself against the floor and objects but when you try to pick him up in this mode, he becomes stiff as a board. It sucks, but I just put him to bed.

I havent noticed it with any certain foods. She doesn't have much sugar at all. She still nurses and only drinks water other than that. And she eats a lot of fruits. But I can't think of anything that would have triggered it. I haven't really paid attention though. I'll have to keep an eye out and see though!

I hope you can figure it out. Things I have never thought of even with the smallest amount if sugar set her off.
she somewhat gets like that when tired too now. But having the sugar makes her tired so it goes hand in hand I guess
good luck

That's what I thought it was at first, and I guess it could still be. But it doesn't happen every day. And it's not just when she shoukd be tired. We cosleep, I tried putting her to bed and she was not having it. She was about to fall out of the bed and wouldn't let me hold her at all so I gave that up and we went to the living room.

Thank you! I will definitely keep an eye on What she is eating the days it happens and see if it's related to her diet! I hadnt even considered that!

Bring her up here! She and Elora can have a screaming match! I think Elora's problem is her cuspids coming through, plus not being allowed to nurse as much as she likes. She acts like I've utterly betrayed her. Last night she screamed and threw tantrums from 11pm -2am when she fell asleep, then she woke up at 5 to scream for another three hours.

Can I FedEx her to you? Lol.
Addie has all Of her teeth except her 2 year molars, and it doesn't look like they're coming in yet, so I can't blame that. Lol. I hope she gets over this phase soon! I think part of hers is that I don't have as much milk and my nipples are so sore ive been trying to cut back her nursing as well. But I don't Knkw. She acts like a wild woman! Haha. I kinda dread how she acts with the new baby!
