posted 23rd Jan
I am just wondering ?? Why are poeple against throwing there own baby shower someone said its tacky..well I for one will have poeple helping me but I am way way way way way to picky to have someone decided it for me and most of my family is far and my close friends out here are stupid as in no clue a baby shower from a tree ....so what's the big deal !! If I and maybe a friend or two do it??

I have no idea why its tacky. I found it so confusing.
You're feeding the people...not like saying hey come over and bring me presents and bye!

You could just be involved in picking out stuff? I just think it's nicer when friends or family throw the party, just my opinion.

You can do whatever you want. I wouldn't throw my own, it would make me uncomfortable, but my input and opinions were asked.

I think people think its tacky because instead of a friend or family member doing it for you you're specifically saying, "hey bring me gifts for my baby".
I don't care either way if other people do it, but if nobody throws me a shower I won't be throwing one myself.

The reason many people(myself included, honestly) think that throwing your own baby shower is tacky is because it looks like you're focusing on what you are going to receive(regardless of whether it's true or not, that's how it CAN come across). It's the same reason I don't like registries for anything. I don't like registries because(and this is just my opinion) it says that you don't trust peoples opinions on what they want to buy as a gift.
Out of 3 babies, I only had 1 shower, and I didn't throw it myself. That was with my 3rd and it was 5 1/2 years ago. I really don't want a shower with this one, either.

But I bet she invites them, and expects a gift...

Alot of people see it the same way as throwing your own birthday party. My mom is throwing my shower, but I still picked the theme. I dont see it as that big a deal to throw your own. Alot of people also think it is tacky to have more than one baby shower, and I dont agree with that either. Eh, to each their own I guess.

I think throwing your own is fine. As long as there are plenty of games and snacks and just good fun, it wont seem like youre just doing it for presents. And i know, people who havent had kids yet would probably have to google how to throw one, but i wouldnt say anything to ur friends, just say you already have a theme and whatnot so ur doing it yourself.
