DS goes in three weeks.

What kind of testing do they do on a freshly turned four year old?

Depends on what he's being seen for, honestly.

They test pretty much everything. Motor skills, speech, cognitive, ect. They'll test for autism and ADD if it's a concern. They'll ask you a lot of detailed questions and then evaluate him, which to you will just look like playing and doing regular activities.

They ask you the questions. They'll ask him simple things too but it's okay if he answers like that. That's how they get their information.

They might observe him and ask basic questions. You'll likely have to answer a number of questions related to your child's development, starting from the prenatal stages. They'll cover developmental, family, social, medical/health, education history, and further investigate your concerns. They may have you do some screenings/administer some assessment instruments. The first appt is generally gathering information and some observation. They'll likely go over some of the feedback in the next session, and then determine which direction to go in, based on the way your child presents. It can take a few sessions to get an accurate picture of your child. If he hasn't been diagnosed, they may use the information gathered to start ruling out different things and determine a diagnosis. Once they do that, you'll receive support and information regarding appropriate interventions. If medication is recommended, they usually provide some education and guidance on which is best for your child, and monitor whether its effective or not.

Yes. My son was evaluated when he was 2.5 for the same reason.

He asked us questions, asked my son questions, had me fill out a bunch of papers (with questions on them), had my son draw and play so he could watch him.
My son didnt really answer much but i guess he got what he needed out of him
