Does Sex actually help induce labor?

posted 23rd Jan
I hear all the time how sex is a natural way to induce labor but I have never really heard of it actually working. Has anyone actually had it happened?

*Note: I am not considering it, my baby is apparently not ready yet and if SO even mentioned the word sex around me right now I'd probably punch him.

Last weekend having sex caused me to have horrible contractions 3 minutes apart for about 72 hours straight. The contractions didn't dilate me one bit. I wanted to die. lol
So, maybe?

the movement of sex can help the baby move in to the cervix, semen can help soften the cervical lining to help with effacement and dilation. And the rhythm can cause contractions.

So yes, sex can help induce labor, if your body is already heading that way

It makes your uterus contract after you orgasm. It didn't start labor for me, but once I was in labor it helped it along.

*sigh* it's just a myth. sperm can help soften the cervix. orgasms can bring on contractions. but, if your body isn't ready, your body isn't ready. if you do happen to go into labor after sex, it's because your body was ready. not because you had sex.

We did the deed and a few hours later I was in labor. He was prob born 9-10 hours after the sex. Can't say for sure that's what did it though.

We had sex every night up until labor to try and get things going. I went just over 41 weeks, so I don't think it really did anything.

If sex started labor, they wouldn't let you do it...
