My grandmother used to toss them in salt water overnight. She did that for the flavor but it also defrosted them.

Do you have a defrost option on your microwave?
Or you could run them under hot water- this will cook them a little bit, though, so you'll have to adjust your cook time by a couple minutes.

Yes I have a defrost option on my microwave, but what do I do? Just put them on a plate or something? Normally after putting them in the ziplock bags I set them in water in my sink.

Throw them in a bowl of cold water in the sink with the faucet trickling over it. That's what I do.

oh good idea! I normally thaw them in cold water anyway, so that should work. Thanks.

Sorry but never run poultry under hot water to thaw them only cold. The microwave is nice if your in a hurry but you can just submerge them in cold water and change the water every 30 mins. I had to do this with a holiday turkey. Thawed out a 10+lb turkey in 3 hours with the cold water.

Hmm I never knew that. Any reason why?

I've only done it once, because I completely forgot to thaw them in the fridge overnight, and I didn't have enough time to put them in cold water.

I would put them on a plate with a couple paper towels underneath of the chicken. Your microwave will ask you to enter the weight, and then to flip them halfway through cooking. It usually takes around 10 minutes (for 1-1.5 lb).

Bacteria can grow on the warm parts. Its just not safe or worth the risk.

That makes sense. I guess I just figured it would be killed when I cook it.
Guess I won't be doing that again!

It's fine to do for something thin like a boneless breast.
Not good for something that takes a long time like a turkey.
