Using utensils
posted 23rd Jan
My son is 2 and 2.5 months and still uses his hands to put his food on his spoon and he asks for help with his fork. He talks very well and I'd think he should use a spoon very well too, but no. Anyone else's kid a late fork and spoon-er?

My lo still picks stuff up and puts it on his spoon sometimes. He's 3. He's pretty good with utensils, but not great. you're lo will figure it out on his own time, I don't really think it's anything to worry about unless his motor skills are delayed in other ways too.

My DS is the same exact age, and he can use his fork with large soft food like ravioli. But besides that he is not coordinated enough for a spoon. I try to show him at least once a week. But when he does it on his own it's a big mess. Just give it a little more time and show him once in a while until he seems like he's getting it and start with foods that are not so messy if he spills. DD wasn't fully capable of eating everything on her own until 3 years. She's was okay at 2 1/2 but I would still spoon feed her cereal because of the milk, didn't feel like dealing with a milk mess lol
