Baby awake in the middle of the night.

posted 23rd Jan
My son is 3 months old and for the past few nights decides that the middle of the night is play time. He will only be up for an hour or so, but for real mommy likes to sleep. I was wondering do any of you moms have a trick get him to sleep or do you just grin and bear it?

Deal with it. He's only 3 months old so expect many worse nights than that. Be happy its only for an hour.

at that age you just kinda have to go with it ... i mean you can try rocking him and soothing him but he probably wont go to sleep till he's tired

just try not to stimulate him with tv, electronic toys, etc. Try turning on some nature sounds to see if that will calm him down and make him sleepy. But yeah, mostly just deal with it until he grows out of it.

You can try keeping the lights off/low, soothing music/sounds, things like that to try to kick the habit and/or try to get him back to sleep faster. But as many have said, it's just part of parenthood lol. I had that problem with daughter, except she'd stay up from like 2-5am and my son would be up at 6. AH!

Good luck.

My only advice is during that time, don't brighten the room, turn on the TV or radio, etc. Just try to keep everything as it was while he/she was sleeping. Hopefully they will get the hint that it isn't time to get up and they'll start skipping over that wakeful period.

Good luck!

I know that when I started bringing DD out in the sun for a little bit each day it helped diminish that. Since you're in Cali, I would try that.

This. My 9-month-old still does this some nights.
Don't turn on the light or anything stimulating as others have said. You could try rocking him back to sleep. Sometimes this works with my son, but usually it takes me just as long to rock him back to sleep as it takes him to put himself back to sleep.
Is your son crying while he is awake? Or does he just play and go back to sleep? As long as he IS NOT crying, I would just leave him in his crib to play and tire himself out.

Yeah if he isn't crying I wouldn't do anything about it. Just let him play and talk to himself, and when/if he starts to get upset, then go rock/nurse him back to sleep.

My daughter is 9 months and still decides to do that once in a while.
I know it's frustrating but it's part of the joys of parenthood  haha

When my daughter was 3 months old... before bed time, I would play with her a lot and keep her stay awake until I will notice her that she is tired, and then I would put her in sleep when it is bed time. That was my trick and I will do this again with my number 2 on the way.   good luck!
