First c-section

posted 23rd Jan
Yes. I know that the majority of moms think I'm stupid for taking the doctor's advice and going with the c-section to deliver my "large" baby. But I'm doing it anyways because it's what I feel is best for us.

Any advice you c-sectioned mamas wish that someone would have told you? The big day is tomorrow and I'm scared. Thank you!

its soooo cold. lol.. and after the surgery you'll be extremely groggy. but the day after surgery take it easy but the more you get up and move around, the faster the recovery. I was out in 48hrs (would've been before but hospital said min 48hrs.

You do what you think is best, screw what others think

I wish someone would have explained that getting up and walking sooner, is best. Not over doing it, but the more you walk, the better you heal (or I did) I learned the hard way. My first csection was an emergency and I didn't want to move afterwards. I didn't unless I absolutely had to and it took forever to seem like I was healed. After my second, I got up and walked a lot sooner and it seemed to help my recovery.

Then with my third, I was up doing almost as much as I could as soon as they would let me.

Use a pillow if you need to cough or sneeze. Put it against your stomach and get into as little of a ball as you can and it won't hurt as bad.

Use your arms to help get out of bed and off of stuff for a while instead of your legs.

Good luck and I'll be thinking about you!

That damn morphine they give you has you itching like crazy once you're in recovery. I was itching so bad for like 24 hours post surgery. The benadryl the prescribed me didn't do jack smurf to relieve it.

Thanks love! I'm scared smurfless. I've been crying all morning. I just keep thinking about DD and what if something happens.

Eek! I guess I'll prepare myself for that.

The spinal made me feel like I couldn't breathe. But my oxygen levels were fine. It just made it really uncomfortable. Like I was suffocating.

My c-section was very traumatic, but the best advice I can give you is have a pan next to you, because you might throw up..And it feels like someone is sitting on your chest at some points.

I know how that is. I can't really help cause even with DS2, I was the same way

Just keep telling yourself it won't take long. It takes like, 5 minutes once you are numb to get the baby out (I'm guessing on times here btw) and then about 15 minutes or so to finish up. Then you go to recovery for 30 minutes and get some good drugs, and then you're done. The morphine will make you itch like crazy, and if you are like me, you will fall asleep in mid sentence   but that's just a side effect.

Oh. Before the csection. They will give you this little grey cup of nastyness to drink to help keep you from getting sick... it's disgusting. And that's an understatement. It is awful, but there isn't too much of it. I didn't have that with DS1 cause I was put to sleep but with DD and DS2 I had it.

If you have any questions or want to talk more about it, you can pm me. Or I can pm you my number and you can text me. I know how nerve wracking it is the day before.

this too! I forgot about that. And when they pull the baby out it's like someone knocked the air out of you.

Or, it was for me.

You are lucky it is scheduled verses an emergency situation which mine was. My experience was terrifing!! i think usually most people have good luck for the most part. My mother in law and me not so much but i wish you the best!! One thing that i do suggest is use cocoa butter on your tummy afterwards or you will have hamburger belly since you are just "vaccumed out" instead of everything leaving on its own. The pillow thing is helpful also!!

I've had one emergency c-section, one scheduled and this one will be scheduled.

What i knew the second time which i wish i would've known the first,
is about the abdomen band.
I had to research it myself, then when i brought it up to my doctor, they said they had them/insurance covers them- but you have to ask for them.
They put it on you immediately following surgery,
and it helps with pain management, therefore getting you up 'n walking sooner, and recovering faster. (what it claims to do and what it did for me)
It takes away that "my guts are going to fall out" feeling when you stand up.

With my first it was a horrible experience
With my second, the excess pain not being there, i was feeling like 'myself' about a week after getting home (still wearing the band)
I seriously credit a HUGE part of my recovery to that band.

It's also helpful when you start to work out again
