posted 23rd Jan
DD is 13 months old and is sick. I took her to the dr today but her ears are fine and both the RSV and flu test came back negative. I have to take her back tomorrow for blood work and to give a urine sample. Shes been running a fever for 3 days now, shes not peeing alot, she refused to eat last night and still hasnt eaten anything this morning, and is develping a rash on her cheek. Any ideas on what could be wrong? Im freaking out!

have they tested for a UTI???
My daughter stayed sick similarly for about 4 days... took her into peditrician and nothing was determined. They asked then if she would pee in a cup (she was 1.5 at the time) and of course she was horrified to sit on a potty at that time and they wouldn't give her a cath. so they sent us home doing Tylenol and motrin cause her fever was pretty high . 2 days later when nothing was better I took her into her Urgent care (weekend) and nothing was STILL determined! -Talk about fed up. And they still didn't do a cath on her cause they said they wanted to avoid that route if possible. so they sent us back home with same trying to keep her temp under control (which was only half way working). Then another day went by and I took her BACK to her peditrician and was so mad cause my baby had been so sick with nothing determined to be wrong with her and I demanded them to do a urine test even if they had to do a cath or I was going to take her elsewhere and do the same and then sue them if that was the case for not taking proper action in the first place! Needless to say they understood my side of things and did a quick and easy cath that only lasted 5 seconds and sure enough it was a Urinary Tract Infection, and a bad one. They gave her a very strong antibiotics and she was completely better within 48 hours! Push for further testing.

They are supposed to be doing all that tomorrow but now she has diarrhea real bad. Can a UTI cause that?

this!! My youngest had/has that. But then again she's a special case. And she's on antibiotics for preventive measures until we can get her situation fixed.

What was the name of the med if you remember?

I don't remember the meds name without consults with my pharmacist, it was almost 2 years ago now. But lesson well learned.

I'm not sure about other side effects but a high fever alone can cause upset stomach in many ways so I'd still stick with the UTI test for a good starting point.

She probably caught a little virus. DS has one now, and it is kicking our butts. It is really going to be interesting because my Baby Shower is tomorrow, and there is no one who can watch him. Wish us luck lol. Anyways I am glad she is feeling better!!
