DS is gonna go get blood drawn and I know it's going to be EXTREMELY hard. He will probably have to be help by a few people. Should I let him know what they will be doing now or wait until we get there? How should I talk to him to try to get him to do it calmly? He's 5...He hates shots and I can only imagine how difficult this will be

IDK, if he will be that bad maybe not tell him or let him see them do it. like block it till the last minute. I dont know really my kids love needles and getting blood taken. lol

Tell him he'll get "big boy" reward. Like ice-cream, lolipop, toy, etc.

My sister has a bad needle phobia, still does and she's 19. Anyways a few years ago my mom took her to the doctors office and they have specific instructions in her chart that say that they cannot tell her that she'll be getting blood drawn or shots before they do it. Because, back then, she'd pitch a fit. Well this nurse didn't see those instructions, I guess, and told my sister that she'd be getting a shot. 10 minutes of sitting and thinking about it made her pass out...she hit the floor pretty hard :/

so imo, if you're going to tell him, do it shortly before it's going to happen so he won't have to think about it for too long :/

I'd wait until you get there and explain it to him in the waiting room..

We have ONE lady here at a certain place.. she is the only one I'll use.. and the only one I'll let poke my kids. She is super good, super gentle. Once when I was there for my GD test.. this little red headed girl came in covered in bandaids because her doctors office kept trying to get one of her veins and couldn't. That poor child was so traumatized.. but she left the clinic smiling with a sucker and a cute bandaid   she got her first try and it didn't even hurt.

Hope thats the case for you! Hope it goes well.. I have a super stubborn crazy pants boy I know what its like.. we have to hold him down in order for them to look in his mouth lol
