Bump on my sons head...

posted 23rd Jan
I feel like a smurf because I just now noticed it but there is a large bump on the top of my sons head. It reminds me of that bump on the top of a dogs head right above its forehead for lack of a better way to explain it. We are bringing it up on Friday but I'd like some input before then, especially if its something I need to be more wary of. Its not the kind of bump you get when you bump your head, its hard like bone. All my nieces and nephews have nice rounded heads but that spot on the top of his head above and center to his forehead is quite pronounced. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but my son was delivered with a vacuum, and its in almost the same spot. I'm not jumping to correlate the two things because this bump is hard and that bump was soft. That raised spot from the vacuum was gone in 2 days. I wish I had noticed it sooner so I could nail down what it is myself. I'm sure its nothing and hope its nothing.

has he hit his head lately, even while sleeping that you can think of? is it sensitive to touch or does it seem to be bothering him? has he been unusually fussy or lethargic since you noticed it? Are there any other symptoms other than just being a bump on his head? I personally dont think it is vacuum related but I am not doctor. I did work for a dermatologist and we would see cysts at least once a day, which will be hard but kind of move around a little and wont hurt or be sensitive to the touch. Maybe go ahead a call the pedi in the morning and let the nurse know and see if they can just see you sooner. Thats what I would do just for peace of mind.

He hasn't hit his head, Im almost certain that I would hear it, since he has a metal crib. Just bumping into it myself it makes a hollow clang sound. I think if he did I would hear it over the monitor. I only sleep a 2-3 hours a night out if his 10 hours, so I would probably be awake anyways. I won't say I am 100% certain though. But definitely no to hitting his head in general, even if he did hit his head, he would have to like...land on top of it? Its right there top middle of his head. It doesn't seem sore to the touch at all. He doesn't even so much as flinch. He has SOOO much hair I never noticed it, even washing his hair...must have gone right over the spot. It doesn't move at all either. Its perplexing. I'm goin to explain all this to the nurse in the morning though I doubt I will have him seen before his well visit Friday, they are being all kinds of suck with their patient (over)load. They send alot of sick visits to urgent care because they are booked solid.

yeah with a metal crib and if you are a light sleeper you probably would have heard it. Where is in relation to his soft spot? I think if its not bothering him or changing size or anything, you should be fine waiting until Friday. (Still call in the morning of course). How old is he?

I'm not sure about that in relation to his soft spot. Ill check in the morning. I'm sure the nurse will ask too. He is 13 months old on the 28th.

make sure you make a note of location, approx size, any symptoms and when you first noticed it. Also may be asked if you have changed brands of baby soap (even though most are relatively the same and do not have dyes or lotions not every brand uses the same ingredients). Good luck, try not to worry to much.
