Tips on treating diaper rash..

posted 22nd Jan
My 6 month old daughter has a diaper rash. (She is teething, so I think its from her loose stools or maybe more acid in them) Its not all over her butt, just in the crack but its turning into pimples/blisters! I've been changing her diaper as soon as she goes potty/every hour, whichever comes first. I let it air dry, I've been putting breastmilk on it and Aveeno Diaper rash cream. I use sensitive wipes/diapers. I've been giving her a bath every night which seems to be helping, but its been 5 days! I'm going to call her doctor in the morning.

Someone told me to not use wipes just a wet warm washcloth. So can I just use my regular ones that I washed in purex detergent? Also, how would I go about cleaning them after, I don't have enough to last a whole day.. Just hot water/baby soap?

A&D ointment or cornstarch! Maybe both but I have never used both together...usually just a&d works. Also when Peyton's lil bum got that way I would wash her in the tub.

I used kleenex brand paper towels and would get them wet. You can just wash them in the sink.

Here is a magic diaper paste that will clear the rash in no time flat.

equal parts of
Mylanta (liquid antacid)
Desitin (regular butt paste)
Tinactin (yes, for athlets foot)

Mix it together and lather it on her bottom. I swear to you, this works better than any butt cream you will ever use. It was told to me by my pedi and it really worked miracles on my son!

My daughter got really bad rashes from teething too.

Every time she peed or pooped I would, wash her in the tub.

Corn starch works wonders.

Dd had bad diaper rash from 6 months to 8 months. I just switched her to cloth diapers and cloth wipes. When I did the wash clothes as wipes I just threw them in the washing machine. I wash all the wipes halfway thru the day. Or I just wipe her off with toilet paper. Something in the disposable wipes makes her butt blister and peel like a chemical burn. I had someone suggest coconut oil to me but I never tried it.

Okay so maybe I should just rinse her butt off every time she goes potty? I told my husband to get some A&D and Desitin on the way home, hopefully we can get it to clear up..

With all 3 of my kids we always used the Buttpaste or TriplePaste, both work amazingly!

I'd always change them and use the non-fragrance wipes with no perfume. Pate dry with a soft cloth, add the diaper cream and by the end of the day it would be clearing up.
Now alot of people say not to use baby powder, BUT this paticular one ( below pic ) I used with ALL 3 of my kids and it helps amazingly!!! Seriously. You can get it at Wal-mart where the diaper creams abd baby powder is located.

Change baby with non perfume wiped, pat dry(< very important) add diaper cream, sprinkle a little of that powder I mentioned and I swear by the next 1-2 changes it'll be clearing up, Good Luck!

Thank you! I didn't even think of paper towels and I'll have to try that mixture.

I did just because I didn't have to cleanse as much with any kind of wipe. Becareful with Desitin, I used it on Peyton and her rash never went away so I took her to the doctor and her pediatrician said the zinc in it can actually try out the skin and make it crack so it doesn't completely clear up. Switched to A&D and it was gone in like 2 days.

Yeah OP, I'd steer clear of Desitin if I were you. It works for some babies, but something in it causes a skin reaction in other babies. Butt Paste rules. And A&D. And cornstarch.

It actually is a rare, reaction and only happens when parents over use and don't fully clean the area after each application.
