Arrested on 22 yr warrant D&D

I just read a story that IMO, is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

This is the link for it

Robin Hall Arrested: 22-Year-Old Cigarette Shoplifting Warrant Sends Woman To Jail In Florida

That cigarette smoking is bound to catch up with you.
Police in Florida searching for a cruise ship for suspected terrorists instead arrested a woman on a 22-year-old warrant for shoplifting, WFTV reports.
Robin Hall, 41, was greeted by Brevard County Sheriff's deputies Thursday as she exited the Disney Dream cruise ship in Port Canaveral. Police say the Connecticut woman -- who was vacationing with her husband and two children -- failed to pay the $85 in court fees on proceedings surrounding her shoplifting a pack of cigarettes from a Wal-Mart back in 1991.
"I take full responsibility for what I did but I do not believe I deserve this," said Hall, who was 18 years old at the time, according to NBC Connecticut.
Police discovered Hall's outstanding warrant when they probed the cruise ship's passenger list for potential terrorists.
Since her first brush with the law, Hall earned a degree in architecture. She lives in Connecticut where she helps design jet engines for the aerospace manufacturer Pratt & Whitney.
Hall has been in jail since her arrest. Brevard County authorities refuse to accept bail because the shoplifting incident took place in Orange County, meaning Hall must be transferred. Due to the holiday weekend, that may not happen until Thursday, WESH explains.

My thoughts are she said she takes full responsibility, but to be kept in jail for this long for a shoplifting warrant. I do not believe she meant to let it lapse, but its such bullsmurf that she is put in jail like she is a hardened criminal.

What are your thoughts on this?

I think this is absurd and she should sue. A simple hey pay your fine reminder would have been better than this. They ruined a fun vacation for children too. She's not a hardened criminal or anything. It was completely unnecessary.

That's absolutely ridiculous! It sounds like she probably would have payed her fine no problem, no need to leave her in Jail like some hard criminal.

I hope she sues them, this is beyond ridiculous. They could of easily said "hey you have a 22 year old warrant that you need to pay as soon as possible" They didn't have to arrest her and ruin their vacation.

I definitely think they could and should've handled it better. But, I also think the law needs to be followed. So, maybe something needs amended somewhere so in situations like this, people can just pay up and not go to jail and take up space, sleeping quarters, food, hot water, etc..

I know this may sound smurfed up...but I can somewhat understand why it happened that way...I know sometimes people do get lucky and the police or whatever law agency doesn't actually go by the book, but some cases like this going by the book and doing what is lawfully right turns out to be something really stupid and unnecessary.

When DH and I moved here after he finished his contract one of the first things we did was renew his license because it was about to expire, we went to DMV and on the spot he was told that there was a warrant for his arrest and his license had been revoked...for over 3 years. DH had absolutely no idea, hell he had bought a truck, been with 2 different insurance companies, had to inprocess into several military installations and this was never found. Keep in mind TX is a very military friendly state, he was about to get taken to jail but we ended up paying all the fees, which took almost all of our savings we had for after he got out the military. Almost 3 years later, we're still paying 'surcharges', it's smurfing ridic.

Some of the towns in this state take their sweet ass time to set up the warrants. My husband knew he had an outstanding ticket that should have been a warrant but it never showed up. He applied for jobs and all kinds of stuff without a problem. He got this ticket when we first got together and it too like 4 or 5 years for it to show up. Manvel,Tx takes their sweet time. He of course paid it once it was issues.
