Absence seizures

posted 22nd Jan
Kieran's teacher said she noticed him staring off and when she'd get him back his eye lids would flutter some, shes also noticed a change in his balance. She mentioned absence seizures. I'm looking into them and I've seen him stare off and its hard to get him back sometimes. I've always connected that to him having autism but now I'm worried. He has a doctor appointment on Feb 6th for his 5 year well child and then another on Feb 25 with his specialist for autism. Is this something if I notice I should rush him into the ER even if it passes before I get there or is it just something i need to bring up with his pedi. I'm very concerned but I'm also confused.

TIA

I'd bring it up at his appt. they'll then likely refer him to a neurologist

This. I don't think it's something that can be urgently taken care of.
Good thoughts your way mama. Hope everything turns out okay.

I had a student I suspected of doing that. I even did a bunch of google searching for the mom to explain what I was thinking. I *believe* she told her GP and he referred her to a specialist. I've never heard back because they moved, though.

These are what Aidan's seizures are. They dismissed them as seizures until 18 months because they wouldn't be present when being examined. He had to have a 24 EEG done.

I get them, have since I was a child. There isn't much they can do about it and they aren't harmful. When I get them I am fix on a object, any object. I have no control of my vision but I am completely aware of what is going on around me the whole time. It freaks SO out sometimes but it just something that happens. It has never interfered with anything, not even my driving. They use to do EEG test on me all the time, but unless you catch them as they happen then they can't really see what is happening.

They can give him seizure meds.
And they can be dangerous if swimming or driving.

IDK it does sound dangerous to me if operating a vehicle or swimming like another mama mentioned. I am happy to know that they likely do not develop into full on seizures.

Did you ever take medication?
