Quoting Honey&E:" Obviously you haven't really had the full labor experience - it is hard to tell what your body will ... [snip!] ... recommend doing some research and going from there. I switched from an OB to a midwife at 28 weeks in my first pregnancy. "

I thought about a mid wife, but am unsure how expensive that would be. and I'm guessing insurance will not pay for that right?
I've heard amazing things about them though.

Not dilating before active labor is pretty normal, especially for first time mothers. I went to 42 weeks with my first and never dilated at all before I was in active labor, and I have VERY narrow hips an delivered him naturally. Didn't even tear, and he was 8lbs 1oz. With my second I didn't dilate at all before labor and again delivered naturally, no tearing and she was 9lbs even at 41 weeks.

If you want a vaginal delivery, you CAN have one. Just find a doctor who is willing to give you a chance.

What insurance do you have? Some insurance does cover midwives. Some will cover them only in a birthing center, not a hospital. Some don't cover anything but a doctor/hospital birth. I would discuss it with your insurance provider.

But even if they don't cover widwivery, you can search for a doctor who will allow you to try a vbac if that is what you want.

Quoting Nikita Rowsell:" Well, when it all boils down to it, it's your body and your baby. I know in the states it is harder ... [snip!] ... vbac. Also, it is important to understand that c-sections are more risky for both the mom and the baby in a healthy pregnancy."
I will do some research.
If I did switch, I think I might like a midwife maybe.

I wonder if the hospital I am delivering at allows them or not. He didn't say if they did or didn't, gonna look into that.

My two year old was 5 pounds 14 OZ at birth, so if you can have those bigger babies I probably could have had her.
I think the c-section with her might have been needed because of the drop in heartbeat, but will for sure look into not doing a c-section again.

I have Antham

Blue Cross PPO as a primary, and Medi-Cal (state insurance) as a secondary.

My hospital didn't allow them for liability/insurance reasons. You need to research if your chosen hospital allows them.

My current OB and hospital will allow me to try since risks are the same for a 3rd c/s and a VBA2C. My plan is to try the VBA2C and if anything looks "wrong" during delivery, we'll do the c/s. A healthy baby is my goal and you don't get a gold star for pushing one out your vag vs having a section. Plus it's not like it matters HOW the baby gets here, nobody'll say to your kid, "oh, you were a c/s? I don't want to be your friend."

DS was an emergency c/s due to fetal distress; his heart rate went down and didn't come back up. Had we not done the c/s right THEN he would have died.

Quoting Two Princesses:" My fiance seems to feel it's what is best. He said the perinatologist rubbed him the wrong way. I guess acting like he knows it all and such."

See I feel the opposite of you fiance lol I feel like you ob is being a no it all and your peri is trying to let you know that a c-section is not your only option. It is solely up to you in the end though. If you feel more comfortable with a c-section go that way but if you want to try for a vbac find a dr that will support that.

ETA - Based on what you have told us that is.

My midwife is a CNM - certified nurse midwife. She delivers at hospitals and it completely covered by my insurance. (I'm a teacher - so I have pretty good insurance.) My midwife is amazing she was with me during my daughter's labor and supported me through my c-section. She is helping me get to a VBAC this time.

There are a lot of hospitals and OBs that don't support VBAC. I believe it's not because it's safer but because it is easier for them.

Whatever you decide - don't feel guilty if you have a c-section. It is your choice.

On the bright side if I do get a second CS he has agreed to tie my tubes for free. So thatwould be the only thing that would make me think twice about electing for a vaginal birth as long as I were healthy enough.
