Doctor scheduled an induction

posted 22nd Jan
I went in for my 40 week appointment today and the doctor wants me to come back on Friday for a non stress test. So then he told me that they want to induce me next week by 41 weeks. I didn't really like the idea if being induced but he made it sound not so horrible. He said they will give me pitocin and then once I start feeling uncomfortable at all I can get an epidural. I still don't know how I'm feeling about being induced, like I'm not that eager to have my baby right away, I'm not that uncomfortable and I have no health concerns whatsoever. I just get concerned about my baby having her first poop while in the womb still and inhaling it if I wait longer. And if I'm still unsure about the induction and depending on how the non stress test comes out, would I be able to cancel my induction for next Wednesday?

If you dont want to go then cancel it and tell him that you want to wait it out longer.

She most likely won't poop unless she's stressed. If you don't feel comfortable gettin induced u can always cancel.

I'd cancel it. It's your first kiddo. Give yourself the chance to go into labor your own.

I am just saying I know quite a few people who regretted their inductions. (Myself included) or ended up having a c-section.

You can always refuse a procedure you are uncomfortable with, OP. Pitocin isn't even supposed to be used to initiate labor. That's what the bulb and cervidil are for. If you don't feel comfortable with your doctor's decision, then politely refuse it.

I'm going to see how Friday goes and what they say, and then decide what to do.

They broke my water at 40+6 because I'd had constant, timeable contractions for six days with no cervical change, and hadn't slept in three days. if they'd left me any longer I wouldn't have had the strength to deliver. I almost passed out as it was lol. If it's not medically necessary you should be able to decline an induction. Don't let them scare you into something that you don't need to do. If they say it's medically necessary, get a second opinion. Hopefully you go into labor on your own before they try to induce   Good luck!

Oh wow that's crazy, I hope I do too. I really hope it all starts with my water breaking so I know for sure when to go to hospital.

It was hell. i kept calling my midwife going "FFS I have been contracting for freakin days, this has gotta be it" and shes like "Nope, you're not in labor"   I almost punched her at day 5 lol. I thought I was in labor because they were 5 mins apart for a min each but because he was posterior he couldn't engage and my cervix wasn't doing anything   It was all back labor as well coz he was posterior, it sucked. I hope baby decides to make things easy for you!

I'm sorry you had to go through that! I'd be so aggravated. Thank you, I do too!

Lol he definitely made us work for it, but it was worth it all in the end   My labor was a pain in the ass, one thing after another went wrong. Six days of contractions, only got to 3cm, they broke my water and I went from 3-9.5cm in the space of two hours and started spontaneously pushing but that last bit of cervix wouldn't dilate, so they said I had to get the epi to stop the spontaneous pushing, because if I kept pushing it would screw up his heartrate and put him into distress and make my cervix swell up. I REALLY didn't want the epi. Then I dilated that last little bit, started pushing and OMG it was SO much harder with the epi than without it. then he got stuck in my pelvis and they called for a doc to do an episiotomy and vontuse but I managed to get him out before they had to. Finally got him out after over two hours of pushing because of the epi and then the cord snapped after she'd cut it and was trying to pull out the placenta but it didn't come out so they had to manually remove it
