Its normal. Toddlers usually can get peeing in the potty down pretty quickly but pooping scares them. They don't like it. My daughter use to scream when she had to poop. My son starts freaking out and running all over the place when he has to poop. After teaching them both to say "bye bye" to their poopies, things got better.

Its okay to take a break if you feel like you both need one. He's still young and PTing isn't a race. We actually took a small break with Isaiah, we started PTing him when he turned 2 as well. Holding it may be causing some constipation. I would take care of the constipation, take a little break and try again in a few weeks.

A lot of kids are scared to poop on the potty. I always just dropped the poop into the toilet and told her the toilet was not scary and this is where she needed to poop.
