LICE!

posted 22nd Jan
I feel like I'm living in a nightmare!!!
My step daughter now has lice for the second time since December! She got it a week before Christmas, we got rid of it. I did all of the following
Treated with Rid
Combed and picked her hair for hours at a time, twice a day
Washed her bed linens, PJs, and clothes in hot water daily
Bagged up all her stuffed animals for over two weeks (and my boys stuffed animals)
sprayed the bed linen lice killer throughout my home and car
& finally treated her hair once more

We eventually got rid of it, well like I said it's back! I spent so much money on getting rid of it last time :-(

Is there anything you've done personally to help??? This time around I used apple cider vinegar to loosen the nits and bugs then picked her hair until the vinegar dried and now her hair is full of coconut oil in a shower cap trying to suffocate any bugs I missed. I got that idea from pinterest so I don't fry her hair again with all that rid!

Thanks

Put teatree oil in her shampoo. It will keep them away and kill the ones she has.

Thank you! That is exactly what I need, a prevention since her school is obviously infested!

Oddly enough,Coca-cola works.
They also make a shampoo and leave-in conditioner called "lice shield".. I'm pretty sure that's what it's called.

Pulling her hair up and spraying it down with hair spray will help as well.

My TWO YEAR OLD got them from her cousins...twice. It was a freaking nightmare to get ride of them because she did not want to cooperate with rinsing the shampoo or the combing.

Can you use that treeoil on a younger child?

My daughter went through 6 months of school with her hair like this one school year.

She has very shimmery hair and lice seems to be attracted to it. Since I've added Tea Tree Oil in our shampoos, she never got lie again (it's been like 10 years since she had lice).

Use tea tree oil shampoo at least once a week. Use gel, hairspray, some type of product in her hair to make it dirty. Lice like clean hair.

It may irritate her skin though. I used mine just the other day on ds1. He had to use a loaner helmet at a skatepark & I used it as a precautionary method. His cheeks look irritated & I have lotioned them several times.

When my sister was little she seemed to get it constantly but my mother was told to use dog shampoo once a week and it kept them away. I know it sounds weird but I washed my hair with it too once a week and never got lice and my hair was twice as long as my sisters and we shared the same room. The dog shampoo doesn't have to be anything special most any brand will work. Good luck momma

I would also call the school if she's getting it from there. I remember my school doing lice exams all the time when I was younger.

Generally, yes, as long as it's diluted well in shampoo or whatever. Do a patch test with the shampoo first to make sure she doesn't react. If her skin gets red and irritated, dilute it more and try again. If she still seems sensitive, maybe skip it then, but it should be fine.
