help with a cough for 3 year old

posted 22nd Jan
I am not 100% sure what to do to help my 3 year old son. He has a horrible wet cough that wakes him up and he gets into these coughing fits he about passes out. We usually just let coughs run their course but this one is much worse. So I am not 100% sure what I can do to help him. We called the doctor but they did not say anything on what to do when I asked they just said bring him in however they can not see him till Friday.

You can give him half a tsp of Delsym Children's. It'll help ease the coughing. Or try the little remedies. Hope he feels better soon.

It is very possible he has croup. Does it sound like a barking cough?

Also, try Vicks on his feet with socks and letting the bathroom steam up and let him breathe it in.

My sons are getting over a head cold and they have had a terrible cough as well... I use an over the counter natural "medicine" called Little Remedies Honey Elixer... it just helps relieve the sensation to cough and lets them get some sleep. I went to the doctor and now I use that along with a humidifier with Vicks in it and at night I put Vicks on their chest and they sleep fine through the night. Usually they have their ceiling fan on but when children are sick, they shouldn't have a fan on because the circulation can cause more irritation to cough. Hope that helps!

Thank you very much all of you. Over this past weekend he was vomiting with a fever between high 103 and low to mid 104. The fever is gone now he is just running a little warm but it has come with a nasty wet cough.

Couple of grams of vitamin c and a couple thousand IU vitamin d a day. Do you think he might have whooping cough? This is a really good article on treating whooping cough naturally. Lengthy but very informative. Hope he improves soon!
