LEEP procedure and tubes tied

posted 22nd Jan
Has anyone had a LEEP? Why did you need it and how did it go?

I'm scheduled for a LEEP because of continuous abnormal paps and I'm getting my tubes tied at the same time. I'm freaking out a little bit.

I had a LEEP years ago. It's totally not a big deal. It only really hurt when I had my first period afterward....a lot of gunk (scabbing) came out with it too, yuck. The only issue I have now is a shortened cervix = high risk pregnancy, but that obviously won't be an issue for you ;)

Yep, a looong time ago. I had pre cancerous cells. It went pretty well. I don't remember any pain or bleeding after. I haven't had an abnormal pap since.

I had a Leep done almost 6 years ago due to stage 1 cancerous cells on my cervix. It went really well, just some light cramping and bleeding afterwards. Not really a big deal! The other part I know nothing about!

I think I'm just over thinking things. I'm worried about cervical cancer and so of course I went and looked up some symptoms and I have a few of them   My OB didn't say anything about cancer though and my biopsy only showed mild dysplasia. He says there is just part of the cervix he can't see that he want to take out and test because I'm always coming up abnormal. He didn't say I had HPV either. I just worry too much.

Definitely calm down - I have had abnormal paps for going on two years and from the way my OB explained it,, as long as you have regular paps done you won't go from no cancer to all of a sudden having cancer overnight - if it was cancerous, they would know and take care of it. After 2 years all I can tell you is that I don't have cancer but I still have mild dysplasia. I may end up having a LEEP treatment done, but with regular checks you will know in very early stages if you ever DO get cancer.

I had a LEEP/cone for high grade dysplasia which turned out to be adenocarcinoma in-situ. The LEEP/cone both diagnosed and cured it. My recovery wasn't bad at all but I now I have an incompetent cervix because of it. Not a problem for someone getting their tubes tied though!

I know I shouldn't worry yet, I'm trying to stay positive. This is about my 4th year though being abnormal and only the first time he is testing this part of my cervix, so it does have me a bit more worried. The way he explained it was there was a part on the inner cervix thats kind of like a shaggy rug. If there are pre-cancerous or cancerous cells in there that he can't see that would explain why I keep getting the abnormals. I guess I just have to wait and see.

Ah, ok - that makes sense. I really hope everything works out well!
