Net should always be above 1200 calories so in the above example you would eat more to get to 1200 calories yes. Now it doesn't mean you have to "eat more" just eat a higher calorie item/s to maintain 1200. If you find yourself netting below 1200 for more than 5-7 days body will shut down and you can risk your metabolism shutting down which would cause you to gain or plateau. Definitely on days you know you are going to work out or be very active to make sure your eating enough to be at 1200 calories or above net for you day.
Sounds odd, but its proven.
