Last name vent

Why do guys always think the baby automatically is going to have his last name?! I don't get it!!!! You didn't make the kid by yourself! What makes you think your entitled to have your name carried on and I'm not.

I think its a pretty traditional belief or assumption that children take their father's last name.

My daughter has my last name. She lives with me and I'm the sole provider. He's not even around.

My so automatically thinks baby will have his last name. It's a sore topic for me. I don't see why a child must carry on the dads last name.

It's just traditional. I choose to do it because it's traditional and so we can all have the same last name. Although my last name is much easier to spell! Lol gets really annoying having to spell out my kids' last names at least 3 times everytime I call the Dr.'s. lol and then explain how to pronounce it several times.

I guess I'm just used to my daughters dad not sticking around so I feel like he won't either. I guess it's just a fear even though I know he'll be a great dad and he tells me all the time that he ain't going anywhere and he is nothin like my ex.

I actually like my SO's last name better than mine. It's easier to spell for one, and pronounce. I will give this baby his last name because my other two kids with my SO have his last name. I never thought of not giving them his last name.

If it is a sore topic consider a compromise. How about a hyphen so let's say it is mine and my hubby's topic I would do Howell-Straight. I don't have this problem though being christain and married I just knew his last name would be the one because when I said I do I joined HIS family. I just think maybe a hyphen would be good for you two if you seem to be "fighting" on who the baby will be named after.

I gave my son my last name.. I did it because i was single and i knew I'd have custody of him and i didn't want to worry about needing proof of him being my kid constantly. With my last name the same as his its questioned less often. After his father committed suicide i seriously considered changing it, and the thought still lingers, but i made the choice to give him mine. His fathers family doesn't call him by my last name they always refer to him as Carlisle Cunningham, and i don't correct them. It doesn't bother me. He is a Cunningham whether its part of his name or not. Some people make a big deal about last names, but i don't see the big deal of it. Make the best decision for your family, follow tradition or don't.

I named my daughter after her dads last name. I don't talk to him anymore because he's insane. I had to pay $600 (so far!) to change it to something else. I renamed her after a guy I'm dating. Hah. I hate my last name.
