Is this Failure to Thrive? Poll

posted 22nd Jan
If a 12 month old baby hasn't grown since 6 months and has actually lost 4 lbs since?
Even if the baby is meeting developmental milestones on time and seems happy and healthy other than not growing?

Idk what failure to thrive is actually defined as. But I would think f it literally, he wouldn't be growing right plus not meeting milestones. But te weight should probably be looked into. But idk if it would technically be failure to thrive since he is developmentally on track except for weight.

Due to not growing and actually losing weight, yes. I would consider that failure to thrive. Even if he's not gaining weight, he should still be gaining height.

I'm not positive but I don't think reaching milestones is part of FTT. The fact that he isn't growing and is actually losing is.

Yeah it is. But don't worry about it. If the baby doesn't gain weight it's FTT. But if he only gained half an ounce it's not. So it's a pretty broad spectrum. Is he more active since his last appointment?

Not reaching milestones can be a factor of a failure to thrive diagnosis.

failure to thrive is generally classified as any stoppage of development mental or physical. My one Aunts 3 girls all had it....they piqued at 6-8 months and didn't start back up until close to 18-20 months.

Very much so! He crawls and plays all the time. He is always chasing the dog or his brother and sister. He is the most active of all my kids even though he is still a baby. He litterly plays and crawls until he just crashes on the floor. Life is far to exciting to be rocked to sleep. He hasn't gained anything, he has lost.

Don't be sad honey, hopefully you and your pedi can come up with a plan. My son stopped gaining (he lost a little) when he was around 6 months. That's when he became super active so of course, he lost weight. He didn't steadily go up the chart though. He shot back up when he was 12 months. He's still a thin boy but he's tall.

Has his height been going up, even just a little bit?
