best birth control

What have you used that you liked the best?

I've tried many things and all have made me dizzy, fat, or get horrible headaches.
SO is getting a V in April and we need something to last around 6 months.

Did you gain any weight or get any headaches from it?

I loved nuvaring and had a great experience until I got pregnant on it this year, lol. It was my fault and I think my SO has super sperm.

I don't know what we will do until he gets his, but I am running out of options O_O

Nope, I have had no side effects.

I have also been on different pills and the depo and I had TERRIBLE side effects with everything else.

I'm had the Paragard IUD and LOVE IT! I already have 3 kids that I can barely afford (right now) and this lasts for up to 12 years, and if we get in a much better financial situation in the future I can have it taken out at any time and be fertile again that same day. It uses no hormones whatsoever so no risk of blood clots or weight gain like almost every other birth control. The only side effects I've had so far (I've had is for 3 months now) is when I'm on my period my cramps are kind of bad, BUT the Dr. prescribed me 800mg ibuprofen to deal with the cramps which works great, got 3 bottles and after 3 periods I've only gone through the 1st bottle so far so I expect they will last almost a year. Also, my periods have been longer but have gotten shorter with every period. The first one lasted 2 weeks! But my last period was just 1 week. Both of those syptoms are common in the first year but are supposed to subside after the first year. Both I can easily deal with for 12 years of worry-free birth control. Also, even without insurance, it's cheaper than the Mirena. But you can get it at Planned Parenthood for free. And the implanting is very easy and pain-free, I thought it would hurt but it didn't at all. Slightly uncomfortable, kind of like a vaginal culture. But no pain at all! I'm soooo glad I went with Paragard lol. But I have read reviews from other women that have it that say they're periods are worst so it's not that same for everyone. But the removal is free at Planned Parenthood also so if you think you can't deal with it you can get it removed.

Thanks so much! I've been looking around and your reply was what I needed! I hate hormonal birth control and was afraid of an iud but paragard seems great. Bad cramps aren't as bad as gaining 10 lbs, being dizzy, bad headaches, and such. How much did it cost? How would it be free at plan parenthood I heard that it wa almost $1000. Do you get checked every so often to ensure it isn't going trough your uterine wall?

Yeah I check it after every period. If the string is in the same place then it hasn't moved. And Idk why it's free at planned parenthood, that's where I got it and you only pay is you want to donate to them, and then it's whatever you feel like giving them. And I'm pretty sure it's not normally 1000, I was told the mirena was about 500 dollars and was told the Paragard is even cheaper than the Mirena, which would make sense since all it is is a little t-shaped piece of copper, the copper acts as a spermicide so it is not as hard to manufacture as Mirena which uses hormones.

And I agree, cramping is definantly worth 12 years since I'm not positive if I'm done having kids, and sure as heck beats weight gain, blood clots, mood swings, abnormal periods, and all that good stuff you get with hormonal birth control. Glad I could help!
