Flu

posted 22nd Jan
One of my ladies seems to have caught the flu from somewhere and I'm having a hard time getting her to drink her sippy cup.. she really does need the extra fluids though besides BF. Should I just occasionally give them to her in a medicine syringe? I haven't been able to fill her prescription yet due to somewhere we previously got a prescription at decided to list Tricare as our secondary insurance even though weve never had another insurance since having the girls and Tricare wouldnt fill it yesterday until we got that sorted out.. which I;m about to find the number to call them but I'm worried about her getting dehydrated with not wanting to drink much.. she's been running a fever and is pretty congested having a hard time breathing through her nose I'm assuming thats why she isnt a fan of her cup at the moment.. Is there anything else I can try to get fluids in her? I bought grapes yesterday thinking fruits would be a good way since she has no problems with eating foods really just doesn't want her cup.

popsicles, jello, you could do the syringe method. Also you could suction out her nose so she could breathe better.

My 11.5 month old just went through this with the flu. She stopped drinking milk all together (her formula) so just getting whole milk now, she would rather eat food then drink, but yesterday day 8 was the first day I was able to get her to drink more then 8oz of liquid in one day.

We never got any meds for her though, they dont give meds for the flu here.

I can't really easily suction her nose out on my own I always have to have hubs hold her down so I can do it but he wont be home till around 3-4 this afternoon unless I get this situated he should be able to leave early or during lunch to fill her meds.

Can you at least try a hot steamy room with her.

I could try running the shower yeah I'm just not sure how well my other daughter would sit still being in there as well.

Pedi told us milk thickens mucus, so I'd try anything but added milk (besides breastmilk). Just thought I'd throw that tip out there because I honestly never knew.

Having said that, we just went through this same problem, and we ended up using a syringe with pedialyte that I would give her while she nursed. It was the only way she would take anything but breastmilk.

Yea I was thinking Id syringe it to her, she will only take tiny sips from her cup but even that is better than nothing really. And I suppose that's right on the dairy it's just one of the easiest things to get her to eat at the moment.
