Discovering gender

My son turned two in November and he now says " mama, I got a wee wee, dada gots a wee wee, you don't gots a wee wee, Becky don't gots a wheeeee" and he names people and identifies boy from girl with whether they've " gots a weewee" so should I teach him about boy and girl differences or let him continue to discover on his own? He wanted me to paint his toes pink and the only way I could tell him why he can't is, well I said " you have a weewee and people with weewees don't do that" and ever since he's been talking about who has one and who does not lol

What does nail polish have to do with penises?
Do you paint your nails with your vagina?

First off, it's penis and vagina.

Also, painting his toe nails isn't going to emasculate him in anyway.....so, why won't you paint them?

I'd just let him continue discovering gender on his own. I also would have just painted his toes. My old boss used to paint smiley faces on her sons big toes whenever she did hers and he wanted his done too. It doesn't hurt anything and he isn't being told he can't do something because he is a boy and it's not boyish enough.

Why cant a boy wear nail polish? If my son wanted polish i would do it, if my girls wanted to play football they could do it..

It really wont OP. Hell my dad is the manliest man i know, and he let my niece paint his toe nails. And they were HOT PINK lol

OP, you are probably going to get hassled about this..i'd just delete it. People on here are so snippy about the whole gender thing. I have no issue. sounds liek you are doing a good job, maybe start using the words boy and girl. goodluck momma.

Sex- between the legs.

Your son is discovering sex, not gender. However you're doing a great job reinforcing gender stereotypes by discouraging him from painting his nails. I'd just explain it as "Boys have a penis, girls have a vagina and leave it at that". I wouldn't reinforce stereotypical gender roles.

Every kid can call privates their own word. Elmo potty time emphasized how its " okay to call it different things" so I let him pick a word

I would never paint my son's nails. It's feminine and I wouldn't encourage it. So OP I understand why you told him no. Just because a child wants something doesn't mean you have to give it to them. I wouldn't allow my daughter to behave in masculine ways either.

I completely agree!

My son knows there's a difference between boys and girls but we don't ever say something is only for boys and something is only for girls. I paint my sons nails because he likes the colors and asks me to ......
