Pacifiers & Ear infections

posted 21st Jan
Peyton is 18 months old. He has only been sick 2-3 times in his life, now being one of those times. He had an ear infection this past week and was giving antibiotics for it. DH was told by one of his family members that the paci MUST have caused it. I told DH that I clean his paci daily and that the paci isn't necessarily the cause of his ear infection and there are many reasons for him to get an ear infection. Does the paci HAVE to be the cause of his ear infection just because he uses it a lot?

No pacifiers don't cause ear infections. My son had his until He was 3 1/2 and only ever had one ear infection, and my daughter just turned 2 and still has hers and has never had one. Some kids are just more prone to them.

Uhm no. Lol I don't even see HOW that would cause an ear infection. A bottle or sippy possibly if they drink laying down alot but a paci? No. If he was sick and got an ear infection that's your cause and effect right there.

Never heard that before...or experienced it. 4 kids, none of them have ever had an ear infection...they're all paci babies!

No. My daughter still uses a paci at bedtime at 3 and she's NEVER had an ear infection.

Thank you everyone I will have to show this to DH. I'm like he's only had 1 ear infection his whole life and he's a year and a half old, that's pretty darn good. I knew that pacis make them more prone to them but I thought there was no way it could actually cause one.

That's what I said. But I wanted to make sure that I wasn't just being stupid, lol. I have never heard of paci's causing ear infections.
