anger issues

posted 21st Jan
I need advice on how to handle a 4 & a half year old that is constantly angry. If he doesnt get his way he'll cry non stop & wont stop even when we tell him to!.. he'll keep asking a million times until he eventually gets his way.. constantly talks back!! Time out doesnt work.. we have tried & tried! I really dont know what to do anymore. His mouth is so out of control. We even put him in swim class at the YMCA to get him in some kind of activity, & he doesnt even want to let the teacher hold him to teach him the steps on how to swim or anything.. he just doesnt listen for anything..

i hope some of you will be able to help, thank you!

Why is he so angry....? There must be a reason. I would take him to therapy. I know it's young, but that might help him. Also sitting down and talking with him yourself and asking him what's wrong? Kids are smart, they catch onto a lot.

this! conan gets sooooo mad sometimes and it drives me up a wall.. when we notice his anger is getting worse and worse we will have a day we take him to the big park (mostly grass. not just a play structure like the one we can walk to) and just let him run until hes ready for a nap.. the next day hes happy and easy to work with and doesnt get angry as easily. (hes 3 in April)

Don't let him get his way "eventually". Do what you say your going to do and mean what you say. He will prob act out even more which makes it hard but you can not give into him. If he is being disrespectful put him in his room until he calms down or says he is sorry, if he wont stay in there hold the door shut until he stops.
If you tell him to do something and he doesn't you need to take something like a toy or desert or whatever away and he has to be nice to earn it back. I put a bin in my room to hold stuff we take away until they earn it back. Tell him the first time, if he doesn't do it give him a warning and tell him if he doesn't do it he is gonna lose ____ and follow through.
Don't feed him any sweets or candy AT ALL, or juice or foods high in sugar. It will make them get out of control more easily and more often. Only give him these things after you get through this and he gets better.
If you don't follow through he wont get better. You have to be strong and stick to what you say, it will take him a while to realize something changed and he can't get away with this behavior anymore but trust me if you don't change the way you parent he will just keep getting worse and its bad when their older. He is young enough that you can do this and old enough to be tough on him to teach him.
Good luck!

yeah idk .. the weather here in PA has been kind of weird lately. & im in school 5 days a week from 9-4 so its kinda hard to fit in a park. but im really wishing spring would hurry up so he can start going to the park again.. hes also starting a daycare this week only 2 days a week so i hope that helps him a little.

We do take toys away & privileges but he doesnt care.. seriously! it amazes me how he doesnt get bothered by loosing his toys or whatever it may be..

Put a jacket and a hat on him. Kids need to run.
