Getting over grief

DS's grandpa died suddenly 3 weeks ago. DS is almost 5 1/2 and his mentality has reverted to that of a two year old a lot of the time since then. He cries over everything, whines constantly, has a screaming fit when he doeant get his way, destroys things, rips up things, puts things in his mouth, wanting to crawl and climb all over you when you're sitting down, and wanting you to carry and hold him when you're standing up. He's super attached to his daddy to the point where if SO goes to the bathroom DS will beat on the door screaming. He gets up twenty times or more every night. Cries about going to bed. Screams for SO until he goes to sleep.
DS hasn't done this since he was like 2.
Is reverting like this normal for grief? And how long does it last?
I told SO he needs to take him to a child counselor or something. He said he will if he doesn't get better in another month.

Right now DS is having a screaming fit because I wouldn't fix the batteries in a singing toy because he's supposed to be going to sleep.

I think you should take him to a child counselor, don't wait.

It sounds like he's really upset over losing his Grandpa. I hope he starts to feel better. I can't imagine what he's going through.

I agree we shouldn't wait. It's not getting better. SO just hopes it will smooth out on its own.
