Binky & Special Needs help.

My daughter is different...she had an autism evaluation after her 2nd birthday and is getting another on Feb. 4th. She will be three in March and every time I try to take her binky away it's so stressful for her. She will scream for hours and is uncomfortable. She had a bottle at night until she was 2....change is really hard for her. Is it a big enough of a deal to stress her out by taking it away now? Or can I let her go a little longer.

No it's just a binkey. If it is a comfort item, then I would let her have it.

I would let her have it. Its her coping mechanism.

my daughter will be 4 in april and she still has her passy, but i made a rule to where she only has it at night time. She has PDD which is on the spectrum as well, if it soothes them i see no problem with it at all.

I wouldn't worry about it. She may outgrow it on her own, and since she gets so upset, I would let it go.

I agree with the other ladies. When u have a child with special needs sometimes things that others do get thrown out the window and u have to do what works, despite it being taboo to others.

Does she chew it? Suck on it? Or just want it to have?

She mostly lets it sit in her mouth, and sucks on it very occasionally. She is SO calm with it though. She just had a meltdown for an hour and we are at my boyfriends grandma's house, her first time meeting her and I gave an old one I found in my purse to her it was like magic. I think I will let her have it if she is having a hard time.

My niece took one until she was 9. Only at bedtime though. She has CP and would not sleep without it. It was a comfort thing for her.

Could you replace it with a different oral toy and she'd be okay? One that might hold up better than a binky?
