How to tell when a pineapple is ripe?

I know I can google it but google never seems to have the answers I need or it's over answered or under answered. Help?

It isn't not green on the exterior.

pull out the center "leaves" at the top of it. if they come out easily, it's ready to eat  

It has a yellowish outside.

pull a stem/leaf w/e it is the easier it pulls off the riper it is ..thats what i was told anyways

It smells strong, is no longer green.

me too. i worked in the produce department at sam's club and bi-lo.

LOL I was told to smell it, and if you could smell the fruity smell it was ripe...I feel a little funny with my nose to the fruit, but it has worked for me.
