I have never seen things so bad in several levels of the socioeconomic ladder.
Tradespeople are still losing jobs and I have several middle and upper management acquaintances and friends who can't get anywhere.

I hate these assumptions.

Not everyone on benefits are lazy pieces of crap who don't contribute to society. Many of them work too...
And many are not proud either...

As for the OP, I think there are many reasons why Obama won, yes, some was for "handouts" but others were for other reasons. I would never vote for someone who was so blatantly against all I believe..

I voted for Johnson btw.

Most people didn't vote because they are lazy. Most of those people work. You generalize too much. People don't want to lose a lot of what they have and they don't want their entitlements that they have worked so hard for handed to the super wealthy and big corporations.

Yeah it's bad everywhere... and it's just going to keep getting worse. I shudder when I think of what Obamacare is going to bring us in the next year. What's crazy is that the state hasn't even given Social Services any directive on what's going to happen... and we have less than a year now to implement the "new" system. Just like the state gave us NO direction on how they were going to raise the income and property ceiling for children to fold into the medicaide program. It's going to be a mess and people are going to get pissed.

Some of them work, some of them don't. The fact is, though, people don't want to settle for less than what they used to have: which is where entitlements come into play. People on unemployment don't want to settle for a job where they'd bring in less than what they make on unemployment. They want to be able to eat and have cable tv. Which is all well and good if you can afford it. If you can work the system, you can live quite comfortably between cash aid, foodstamps, section 8 housing, and utility programs for low income families, not to mention have free healthcare to boot!

That doesn't make any of it alright   I'm glad that Obama is at least trying and putting into effect special bonuses to companies that do not outsource, I'm hoping that will help. I just haven't seen Romney actually do anything for the country..I heard him say a lot of things..and then more contradictory things, but no actions which spoke more to me than anything else.

And yeh... to another commenter, a lot of his beliefs were very extreme and against most peoples, it's not really a big surprise he didn't win.

Most people don't rely on that they have jobs but don't want to lose more of what they have already lost. Republicans want to deep cuts to medicare and social security, pell grants and other assistance. These cuts were hurt the average family very much. People don't want to start at lower and lower paying jobs while wealthy keep getting proportionally wealthier. Things cost more and when you make less it hurts you even more.

75% of the people in the county I work in are on aid in one form or another be it medicaid, foodtamps, what have you. Since Obama took office these programs have expanded significantly, especially in California. For example, before Obama took office property counted against you if you wanted foodstamps. Now it doesn't count at all (in Cali). You can't tell me that entitlements don't play a significant role in the way the vote went. I'm not talking about social security and medicare. I'm talking about the expansion of the SNAP program, and obamaphones.

We has a big recession in 2008 and when Obama was sworn in we were losing 750,000 jobs. We're still trying to recover but its going very slowly. Jobs is the last indicator of a recovery. The housing market is starting to pick up. I understand you work with the unemployed and come in contact with a lot of employed people, but most people that voted for Obama have jobs. I work at a BMW dealership, but I know most people don't drive BMWs.

You obviously didn't read everything I said. I never said everyone on assistance was lazy. I said the people I know on assistance are lazy and it makes me angry that they make more than I do working 40+ hours a week doing nothing and bragging about it while I can't get most forms of assistance because we make too much. My mother makes more than DH and I combined and she's only taking care of herself and still struggles because she has a general labor job and no higher education so she doesn't make very much.

I voted for Johnson as well.

I did read it...but I was talking about THIS post.

"I remember when being on government assistance was something people were embarrassed about. That doesn't seem the case anymore, not that anyone should be ashamed of needing help, but flashing it around and bragging that you don't have to work because you're on assistance? That just annoys me. And the people that do work make too much to get any assistance, even if they can't feed their families."

By saying the "people that do work..." it sounds like you're saying that the ones on assistance do not work.

You did not say "people you know". You generalized in THIS post.

I never said that the people who voted for obama didn't have jobs. I said that they wanted to perserve entitlements. Most of the people I work with ARE employed, however they're still on aid in one form or another. I'm sorry, but when I see 10 job openings that have almost zero qualified candidates applying for them, yeah I'm going to assume that people just don't want to work... especially in an economy that is so job starved. You'd think people would be lining up for a job with regular hours, benefits, paid holidays, vacation, etc. But they're not... why is that?

And sorry, but you said you guys make 35k? So if your mom makes MORE than that and only has herself to care for, and still struggles? Sorry, but she has an issue with money and shouldn't need any assistance. She's over the state income average. You live in KY, yes? It's not much different than here in IN.

I also said "not that anyone should be ashamed of needing assistance." You're just reading what you want to read and taking it wrong. I don't in any way think people on assistance are all lazy. I was carrying on a conversation, was I supposed to restate my full opinion in every single post? I had been discussing a group of people I personally knew in previous posts and didn't feel the need to restate the fact that I was still discussing those people. I was specifically stating the girl I knew flashed in someone's face she didn't need to work because she had government aid while people like myself that DO work (unlike that ONE particular person) can't get any assistance. I made my standpoint very clear. You're just trying to twist my words into something you can argue with. I know what my own opinion is, and it is not that everyone on assistance is lazy and refuse to work. I'm so sorry that you took ONE post wrong.

Yes, you should have restated...or put in the word SOME. It's D&D. Everything you post is subject to being broken apart..
