I had a student come in during an exam to check if I was dilating and all that jazz but I wasn't asked during labor( at least I don't think) I mean, I was so woozy from the epidural and there were so many people....there actually could've been another student in there because I know my doctor had another doctor in the room with her......hahaha, thats sad that I can't remember anything other than holding LO..

I was more miffed when I went for my first u/s, armed with my husband and 3 kids who were so excited to see the tiny baby, and the doc told us there want enough room for them, so they had to leave. Then they moved me to a bigger room and had 5 students come in.

i gave birth in CT too, and my hospital was a teaching hospital.

I've delivered at a teaching hospital so it's one of the first questions your asked when you get all hooked up.I had four students there for my sons delivery and two for my daughters which was a c-section.

I don't understand why someone wouldn't want someone to learn.

That'd be like parents telling me they didn't want me to student teach in their kid's classroom.

The only way to fully learn your trade is to immerse yourself in it.

When I was a student, I was SO grateful to the moms who let me watch. I even got to hold a little girl after mom and dad did. It was a wonderful experience. I always let students learn on me, I know how important it is to get real world experience.

yeah, they were all super psyched too. i remember them coming up to me and shaking my hand or patting my back and congratulating me on my daughter. it was all very nice. they were all very happy to be there, and i'm glad they got to see it because i think i had a nice, smooth labor experience.

I've allowed a student in the room for both of my Labors so far. I let them both practice on me by checking my cervix (with my doctor's instruction), the first gave me the iv during my labor and practiced catherizing me when i had my, inwent natural with number two so no IV and no Epi/catheter, but they both helped delivery my babies. I figure they have to learn somehow.

ETA: for my first delivery the student was a woman, for the second it was a man. I prefer my doctor to be female but I don't mind a male student participating.

there were 4 students and their teacher there when my son was born, one had to leave when I got my epidural because she nearly passed out.

I said no..I delivered at a teaching hospital as well.
Its not that I don't want them to learn or modesty, but more because I easily get anxiety when theres people I don't know around.
I give birth w/o any assistance from pain meds/epidurals so I need to be able to focus on my body alone.
I only like my husband to be in there with me until the baby crowns.
