My grandparents and my brothers have always said its national ni***er day as long as I can remember its kinda hard to upgrade my family unfortunately :/ I tell them all the time how ignorant they sound but it does no good :/

I think most months are white History Months! I know growing up in school I didn't learn anything about black history.....

Can't debate with you there OP. I couldn't associate with people who use the n-word, black or white.

How did you learn about the civil rights movement, the civil war, the underground railraod, frederick douglass, etc?

My dad refers to this day as such.

What school did you go to? We learned about every bit of history, african, euro, american which includes black history as well.

Those things were toughed on, but we never learned about great/famous black leaders or change makers or inventors. The only black person we learned much about was MLK...

I went to public school in philadelphia. Maybe though I only graduated high school 8 years ago.

Well, to be fair.... history classes generally leave out a lot... and many things I learned in my days at school ended up being very inaccurate. hahaha

My oldest is 18!

Extremely TRUE! A lot of what we learned, I have learned some contradictions too especially in college.

It's good to know now though that schools have made it a priority to teach all types of history. I can't imagine my son not learning about any of black history along with the rest of history.
