Yes, I am well aware and in full support of those laws and restrictions.

They appease the masses calling for gun control without actually taking anything away from the gun nuts. We keep our stupid 2nd Amendment intact, the politicians look like they care, it doesn't cost a whole bunch of money, and it is ever so slightly less possible to kill quite so many people in a matter of seconds. Maybe it will save lives. Maybe not. But it also sends a message that the NRA might just not be in charge. I think these restrictions are a cop-out though. I have nothing against the concept of a marksmanship club, but when they're influencing politics to make more money with which to exert greater influence over politics, well then smurf them.

I would personally like much tighter restrictions, but even a socialist bleeding heart gun-hating liberal like me doesn't see the point in taking ALL the guns away. We need hunters, for example. All those poor widdle deer will starve to death if we don't kill and eat some of them. Plus, cooked properly, venison is pretty delicious.

Well, i dont see that as a gain for the government and it's not the government's job to apease the masses.
I'm in favor of the government supporting better mental health for people and families suffering with mental illness. That would have a much bigger impact on mass shootings, drug abuse, broken families, suicide, homelessness and alcoholism.
2% of gun deaths are from the controversial guns. There are so many other, more impactful things that can be done for public health rather than restricting EVERYONE because a a minute number of incidents from mentally ill people.

Throw the notice away since I don't own any guns.  

Really, I wouldn't care. If I owned a gun, it'd be because I hunted but I can hunt with a bow so it's kind of a 'meh' thing for me.

I infinitely prefer shooting an arrow than shooting a gun in the first place.

That's another reason why I don't keep guns in my house.

I live with a bipolar who has horrible impulse control issues when manic. He's ODd on caffeine pills before in a manic state and doesn't even know why he did it other than that it sounded like a good idea at the time.  

The last thing I need is him thinking shooting someone is a good idea. Plus, his his uncle killed himself with a shotgun 20 years ago. So if he wasn't manic and thinking about shooting people, he'd forever be worried his kids would do what his uncle did and kill themselves.

I have some experience with it in my family. I have worked in hospitals and covered the psych units.

Sorry to hear that. and, you are wise in not keeping guns in the home.

It is not necessary for me to keep a gun in my home. I do need to use knives, a hammer, and medications frequently.

I never even implied that I would take guns away from people; just that I wouldn't own one. You sound a bit defensive over how I run my household which is a bit odd. My husband is uncomfortable around guns since his uncle killed himself with one 20 years ago. Any medications remotely dangerous are kept locked away where I'm the only one that can access them. Hammers and knives are not the kind of thing he'd go for because they require close contact and are messy.

Guns are dangerous because they can be used from a distance. It still might be messy but it wouldn't require him to get as close.

I'm asking because you said that he took caffeine pills to OD on? It seems like a cry for help and I was just wondering how you handle keeping ANY of those sorts of things in the house, knowing that he could snap at any moment.

Living like that would scare me.

He did when he was 18. That is what landed him in a mental health facility for 6 weeks. He's a lot better now but he still needs to be watched when he's manic and I do it. We've been together longer than his bipolar diagnosis but only by a few months. I agreed to love him in sickness and in health. *shrug* It's just part of life for me. When it gets to be part of life, it ceases to be frightening.

Well, knowing that it's kind of been a "journey" for both of you, eases my mind about your safety.

I think it takes great strength to choose to stay with someone struggling like that. The "scary" part was just simply because it's foreign to me. I meant no disrespect to you. On the contrary.
