Outdoor Cat

posted 20th Jan
My cat goes outside during the day and comes inside in the late afternoon/early evening. If I had it my way, she'd stay in, but she cries to be let out in the morning so DH lets her out.

We're supposed to be getting an arctic blast moving in tonight and tomorrow and the temps are predicted to be hoghs in the twenties, lows in the 0 to negative range (after wind chills.) MJ is only 6 months old so she's never been through such bitterly cold temps. Should I ask him not to let her out for a few days until the cold front passes? I have no clue whether it's safe to even let her outside when it's that cold.

Potty time isn't a problem. She uses the litter box when she's inside. She just grew up outside and her littermates live on the property.

I would probably keep her in if she is not used to the cold. I have a ton of farm cats that live outside but they are used to the cold and when its really cold they know to go into the barn and keep eachother warm.

She knows she can come and yowl at the door, but sometimes I mistake her for the neighbor's cat

I probably will then. I don't want her to freeze to death or anything.

Any ideas on how to keep her happy?
She gets really loud if we don't let her out right away. She has toys, catnip and lots of string (she loves to curl up with a pile of yarn) and an endless supply of food. I'm not sure what else to do for her.
