Was the first nurse an older nurse? Sometimes older nurses are more harsh and may appear less caring, when the truth is they've been doing the same thing for so long that it becomes robotic.

I had a meltdown over a nurse the other day and made the manager assign me a new one. My dr had ordered an extra iron pill overnight and she brought it to me and I was asking why nobody told me and she was just attitudinal. I ended up getting more and more upset because she wasn't getting me answers and finally instead of simply saying "let me find your dr to see what's going on" she grabbed the pill threw it away and said "there's its in the trash". I tarted crying and said "I didn't say I wouldn't take it, I just want a dr to tell me why they ordered it" and she snapped "because they thjnk your hemoglobin is low" and slammed the door. I just started hysterically crying. I got the manager and she fixed it for me. But I was pissed. You don't treat someone that way especially when they've been in a hospital bed for 4 weeks and have a lot of freakig stress about having a healthy or even alive baby.

Oh, that's awful. I'm sorry. I didn't realize you were in the hospital. I always try to be open with my patients. I never give them any medication unless they know what it's for (unless they're demented or incoherent), and if they don't know what it's for, I offer them an information sheet on it. I always try to extend the same courtesy I'd want extended to me.

I felt Like an ass because it was just iron. Not like some random thing, but still it was how she handled it. But I was thinking "am I anemic" "do they know skmething I don't" etc. the dr finally came in and said it was just because my hemoglobin was 11 which is borderline and with my csection coming up they wanted me to have a boost especially if I have issues with my placenta detaching (which is a concern). So it was fine. But my god she was a bitch. All the other nurses have been great though. I just wish they'd give me a more consistent staff. I have a revolving door of staff. It's be nice to have a regular set of gals who knew my routines and situation.
