Mucus in my throat..TMI!!

I have been coughing and my voice is hoarse since day one (it's bee a few days), I have no other symptoms, not even a runny nose. But I feel like there is mucus stuck but I spit and spit and the feeling doesn't go away. The cough is also dry and I feel like I'm grasping for air every time I start coughing.I have allergies but since it's just cough I don't think it's that. I also have post nasal drip and the past few nights I have been waking up several times choking in my own mucus, it's so gross! I have no idea what I can do! I even try swallowing hard and it just stays there, makes me gag so bad.

I need help, what can I do to get rid of this??

dayquil and nyquil would cure all of those symptoms.
