How am I justifying it? It's a medical fact that some, not all, women cannot simply just quit cold turkey. Do some research.

Nothing justifies it but it doesn't mean those who can't, not don't want to but can't, are unfit parents or selfish people.

There is a difference between not being ABLE to and not WANTING to. OP made it clear that, despite her doctor telling her she needed to quit, that she wasn't going to listen.

Understand that. Wasn't talking about OP. Was quoting the other girl and her tangent about how anyone who smokes during pregnancy is an unfit parent.

I have to disagree with that one. I don't think that the act of smoking itself during pregnancy makes you unfit or a bad parent...Now, when someone chooses to ignore her doctor on the issue, it might make me wonder, but I wouldn't call her "unfit." Needing a wake-up call, sure.

I quit smoking while I was pregnant, but I know it`s harder for some people then others.
And I don`t ever judge those people. I have a friend who tried so hard her whole pregnancy, she managed to get down to 1-3 a day from a pack a day. She was so upset that she could not fully give it up. And would NEVER smoke in front of people, she was embarrassed, and far from okay with her actions. But its a addiction, and some people struggle more then others with it. I was one of the only people who knew.
I'm not justifying smoking while pregnant, like I said, I quit, and I smoked for 10 years! But just because I could do it, doesn't mean someone else wouldn't struggle more!


I don`t think it`s fair to judge people who are trying, and especially for those who were never smokers, it`s so EASY for you to judge.
I'm not making a debate or trying to offend any one, this is just my personal opinion so please, no one take it personally.

I get judged all the time about being 18 and pregnant, just say smurf everyone else! And I love how everyone wants to come on here and talk smurf about people's age, and smoking during pregnancy when in your grand parents time it was normal!! And they are all fine, your parents turned out to be fine... Back then they were married and having kids at 12! I know plenty of women who smoke the whole time they're pregnant and their babies are completely fine, women who take the most precautions while pregnant, don't smoke, and eat the best foods, and their babies have complications! You never know what's going to happen... It's mostly chance (unless you are doing extreme things) I'm 34 weeks & 5 days and I still smoke cigs!!! Idgaf who knows. My baby is 100% healthy!

i'm not a mom that smoked but first of all did you no you were pregnant. and 2 stop judging. what is your story?

Also you are the only person on here acting like smoking is not bad for their health. I hope you realize that. Nobody was arguing over whether it's better to not smoke or not. The 'debate' was about how hard it is for some people to quit. They don't make up statistics about smoking and your baby's health. And btw, in our grandparents day, having a baby was mostly taboo, much more so than it is now. You have no idea what you're talking about. At all.

It's inexcusable. I smoked for 4 years before I got pregnant with my first at 18, and the moment I saw the pregnancy test I threw away the rest of the pack I had. I really just don't get it.

I was the exact same way. I had my last the day my period was due and when it didnt come I didnt have another i tested and when it came out positive i threw the rest of the pack out the car window.
