What's your opinion?

Someone posts items for free, but they clearly state that they DO NOT want the items to be sold. Someone gets the items and then proceeds to resell them, they get caught, and the person who gave them the items find out, they blast them on the group...and said person who received the items proceeds to blast the person back by saying it's wrong to give things away with stipulations.

your thoughts.

In that situation I think it was fine to have conditions because clearly the person giving the items away was trying to do something nice for someone, so it's smurffy of someone to take the stuff and then sell it for their own benefit.

If it's something they made themselves I can see the anger.

But if I buy a broken toaster off craigslist and the person tells me not to resell it. And I fix it and do, they can kiss my smurfing ass.

I think that in that case, stipulations are fine. The person receiving the item didn't pay anything for it, and to turn around and sell it for their own profit, because at that point, any money they receive is pure profit, is just crappy.

once the items are out of your hands, you have no say what the other party does with them.

We had this happen on our local garage sale site. We also had a person who bought a claw foot tub for $200 on there, giving the person a story about how they didn't have money because thier dog was sick so they couldn't pay the $350 they were asking. The tub didn't fit, so they sold it to a relative for the $200 who then in turn listed it on the page for $450 - started tons of drama lol

I think, if you want to give it away to do something nice, then great, but if the person sells it then maybe the "nice" thing you did was give them something they could use to make the money to get something they really needed (like maybe food).

seriously. Whether you give an item away or sell it, once you give it away it isn't your property anymore. You have no say what happens to it, no rights over it, so stupid that someone would actually think they do

I don't see the point. The person would probably hide it from you really well, or just leave the group. Or both.
