No Car, Leaving Hospital

posted 20th Jan
We don't have a car and we're not 100% sure that our friends will be able to give us a ride home from the hospital after baby is born because they've started having car trouble. Am I allowed to leave the hospital in a taxi? I have a car seat and all that for her, just bought it last week, so that's not a problem. I just don't have a vehicle to put it in.

Yes, they don't care what you leave in as long as you have a carseat.

They can't tell you what mode of transportation you use.

Phew, thank god.
I'm hoping to find someone at church who would be willing to give us a ride, but if I gotta call cab, I gotta call a cab, haha.

A girl I know lived a few blocks from the hospital so when she and her husband had their baby, even though they could have driven, they walked to and from the hospital. She walked there while in labor and walked home with the baby a few days later.
They don't care how you leave as long as baby is safe.

Even if you plan to catch a bus?
Not that I'm even considering that mode of transportation, lol. I'm afraid to ride it now because of the flu and drunks

If I wasn't having a c-section, I'd probably seriously consider walking home. It's a 5 minute drive from my apartment. Maybe 20-30 minutes walking. Tops.

That would be discrimination I would assume. They can't tell you that you can't take the bus. We have many parents bring their children to daycare on the bus where I work.

Even then, they have no right in telling you what you can and can't do. Hell if you wanted to walk they couldn't say anything.

I wouldn't be comfortable walking 20-30 minutes after having a baby. They lived literally a five minute walk away.
I was so exhausted after having my daughter I was winded just walking from maternity to the front entrance of the hospital, I sent my husband to get the car and I sat on a bench in the lobby. I could never make a longer walk that soon after having baby. And I delver vaginally.

The hospital I delivered my second at required a car seat tech to check the car seat installation before discharge papers could be signed, and I learned from my nurse that they won't discharge women to leave on a bus, which is why I was curious.

Walk? Girl that's still crazy! You know how hard it is to walk after your insides have practically come out of your body and possibly stitches? I couldn't sit for almost two weeks. (I tore open all my stitches) but still really hard to walk after wards! I waddled slow like a turtle lol c section. Ouch! They will just check the straps on the car seat. Well at least in Cali. Taxi is allowed as long as that car seat is good to go!

I'd pitch a fit if it was me. That's bs. "oh you dont have a car so u can't leave with your baby cause u use the bus as public transportation". Not everyone has to own a car. Medicaid may pay for a ride if baby will be on that for insurance.
