SO and I disagreeing on circumcision

Up until this point, I haven't really thought of it much, other than deciding that I would leave it up to my SO to make the decision between circumcising or not. The discussions we've had so far are pretty short and to the point... I mean, I don't have that part... obviously he knows more about it than I do.

His other two boys have been circumcised, so is he, and so is just about every other man in both of our families, so I think he just takes it as a given that, yes, it's a boy, so yes, he'll be circumcised. We're not religious or anything, it's just something you do.

But as I'm getting closer to him actually being here, I almost want to push against it more and more... I've read up on it and see no good reason to get it done. It's basically just for cosmetic reasons. For a little bit, I was believing that a circumcised penis would be easier to keep clean, but I've seen things that refuted that point.

I guess I'm just thinking of the immediate consequences of it. I mean, this is a brand new baby with an open wound on a very sensitive place that'll be getting wet with his own excrement on an hourly/bi-hourly basis... and if he comes out having some problem with his immune system (like I do) he'll be more prone to get an infection down there...

So what do you mamas think? To circ, or not to circ? And if not, what do you think I should do to get my SO to change his mind?

That's something the two of you need to figure out.

When we have a boy we plan on not circumsizing. DH wasn't and it's great the way nature intended it!  

It's something that cannot be undone. If your SO want's the child circumcised and you do not, then I would stand your ground. Your SO will get over it, and if your son wants the surgery when he is older than he can.

We won't be circumcising. There is no medical need for it. But there was no argument for us, because DH isn't either, so it was easy for us.  

Yeah, there's nobody else who can make that decision for you.
I'm inclined to not circ, as we didn't have anything cut off of dd when she was born and it wouldn't seem right.

Just gather loads and loads of research from both sides and make sure he makes an informed choice, if you want it to be all up to him. Then accept his decision.

i wouldnt because my SO's not and he's perfectly fine.

My son is circ'd and any future sons will be also. A friend of mine did notget her son done bc he was born w some problems and now.totally regrets it. He will be getting circ'd soon and the poor kid is 8 and shes got to have it done bc.of infections he keeps.getting.

Both of my boys are circ'd. Both of which I didnt have any choice into. 1. Adoption. 2. My oldest son kept having pain so he needed to be circ'd. If I have any more boys they will not be circ'd. Why bother with it?

Um, that's highly unlikely as an adult!

the point she was trying to make was that it is his choice to make.

Not very many men will opt for it when older bc it is very painful when you're older that's why it gets done as an infant.

it's still just as painful though! i find it cruel b/c its not something thats a need, rather a want on the parents behalf
