I wouldn't bank on collecting UC for a long period, you have to be willing and able to work and actively looking for work, after a period of time- you'll be required to attend a class/training day to help get you a job. Can you afford to live with just your DHs new income and your photography without the UC?

That seems kinda like living off welfare. The point of unemployment is to be a source of income while looking for work, unless you physically can't work. Sad. I want to work as an LPN for a while, then quit & collect unemployment while I go to RN school... but I'm not going to. That would be embarrassing.

I collected twice, before kids, never more then 2-3 months.. I always found another job.

I wouldn't quit my job, and move for DH to work- if I knew we couldn't afford me not working :-/ that's me. Is his job paying for you to move? If they're not.. I deffinetly wouldn't do it.

Idk what were gonna do when Josh looses his job. He wants to be a sahd and live off his unemployment- which is fine and dandy, for awhile... Temporarily... When the time comes- what if there are no more jobs?! So much can change in just a few months...

Does the unemployment still pay for that period right after you give birth and you can't work? I feel like that would mess everything up- not collect for 4-6 wks then collect again, idk if that'd be allowed.

I never had to do any of that and I was on unemployment for the max amount of time in PA.

Collecting unemployment is nothing like living off of welfare. If you worked long enough to earn unemployment you should be able to collect it when you need it. I never felt bad about collecting mine.

You need to claim every penny you make outside of UC on your weekly report for unemployment and you need to look for x amount of jobs weekly.

And as for my opinion, yes it is wrong. UC isn't for banking on til your dream job works out. It's supplementary until you can find another job in a pay range to be able to live off of. People are struggling bc they had to take jobs paying less than their previous jobs bc they have to apply fpr jobs weekly and thats all that was hiring. Following your drrams is something you do on your own dime, unless you get financial aid for school. Everyone would love to get paid til they find a dream job, but let's face it, this isn't a perfect world.

...lol. Bitch don't ask for opinions and get pissed when they don't reflect well on you.

You want to be a damn mooch.

We're saying, move, let him get a better job, and collect unemployment while YOU work your ass off to find another job. Build your business when you can afford it on your own money, not when you need to abuse a system that was put in place as a temporary lifeline to save someone while they look for ANY job to support themselves.

I also think you're being extremely unrealistic about how much money you can actually make doing photography.

uh no... you don't quit your job voluntarily then expect to collect unemployment.

Those funds should be reserved for families that REALLY need it.
